      Actually, she was.

      The problem is that the show is not technically legally binding. I believe the rules are the same as People's Court:
      1) Both the plaintiff and the defendent agree to drop their civil suit.
      2) They have their case heard on the show. Each gets compensated, but the ruling comes out of the compensation.
      3) Refusal to settle is a breach of contract, which would result in another civil suit.

    Wait. She doesn't believe that people use Grindr to make friends? I met some of my closest friends there, with the intention of making friends. Many of the people I know who use it, use it to make friends. Sure, sometimes there's sex, but frequently it's just trying to find other gay men because that can be enough of a jumping off point for a friendship, especially in rural areas where talking about gay-male issues is a rarity.

    I LOVE JUDGE JUDY! She's so strong and independent. But I can't help but wonder if she maybe, kinda, sorta came off as a little sex-negative in that segement?? Don't hate me please, Gawkerites! I swear I'm a strong, independent feminist myself. I'm just like, trying to discuss and debate if maybe she seemed a little...judgmental there? Maybe even a tad, dare I say it... prudish? I mean like, if both parties are good, giving and game and the sex is safe, sane and consensual, then what's the harm?

      I don't know, I only watched the two clips above, but she seemed really non-judgmental about them having sex. She just judged them on their insistence that they were just looking to be friends when clearly that wasn't the case. What part did you think was prudish? She gagged because the younger man said he considered the older man a mentor, and it seemed obvious that he was actually just taking advantage of him for some money.

      Fun facts! My mom went to high school with her at the hallowed James Madison High School for Future Celebrities and TV Judges in Brooklyn. (Momma also graduated with Carole King, and Joel Zwick — (producer of Full House, eyy-o!)) (Charles Schumer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg also went there before and after) And while my moms didn't go the platinum-selling folksong or Supreme Justice career route, opting to pursue real estate career in Texas, shit turned out alright.         I've never gotten the appeal of that woman. I get it; her schtick is to be c*nty on camera but Jesus, is she unpleasant. There are so many TV judges that do it better. The people's court one for one manages to be charming while berating people.

          The show is a response to the fact that in any given small claims case, at least one of the parties (and in quite a few cases, both of them) is likely to inspire contempt in any reasonable third party. Instead of allowing viewers to experience this contempt at home, as other court shows do, Judge Judy has a person on screen join in and lead the sneering. I'm not a fan of the genre period, but all of these shows are variations on the "Look at these idiots!" theme.
