It was so brilliant how he specifically called Scott Lively to task. I'm just incredibly impressed with Oliver and his team in finding a niche for a show that seemed totally extraneous on the outset. If anything, I sort of wish the second-half segments were even longer, perhaps sometimes even show length.

I really love their "spoonful of sugar" approach to challenging issues, too. I forgive them for demanding that I think seriously about the death penalty and international human rights because it paid off in tiny hamster burrito and dick jokes!

This show started off as "Oh Daily Show Clone" in the Concept stages, but every week, it's been better than the sum of the previous week's Daily Shows.

I watched this segment pumping my fist in the air. Basically, Britain set the the match, and the US spiked the ball, and now Uganda is a shittier place for people because of us: and yet other than some #ivism a few months ago, no one seems to really be paying attention.

Good on Oliver for not just mentioning this, but actually making a long and devoted segment explaining the situation. And even better was that he managed to get Pepe.

Has anyone else seen Stephen Fry: Out There? I just saw the first episode, which is great/heartbreaking. Must watch. It's not on Netflix or Amazon Prime, but you can find it through, um...other means. He travels to Uganda and debates the proponents of the law. Admittedly, he sort of bungles both in that he doesn't really wait long before hammering them on their absurdity, but it's definitely still worth checking out. NPH, Sir Elton John, and the super hunky David W. Ross appear.

I knew I heard of it somewhere!

I may be late to this also, but may I further recommend "I Do," which IS on Netflix? It's not as groundbreaking as say "Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds" but still worth a Saturday afternoon.

Scott Lively is running for governor here in Massachusetts because running for public office and losing by millions of votes is an obvious requirement if you're to pursue a career as a loudmouthed bigot.

I want to rip that fucking beard off his miserable face.

I went searching for Lively's charming song about rainbows called "The Rainbow Belongs to God" but interestingly, the video has disappeared. These are actual lyrics:

The rainbow belongs to God, untouched by evil desire. Who is the one who dares to doubt God's warning that next time is fire? Fire! Fire!

I was scarred for a second until I looked him up on wikipedia. I also looked up the wikipedia page for 2014 MA Gov candidates, and didn't see his name anywhere.

Whew, he's not even running and I still feel like we dodged a bullet.

Oh crap, I missed this on my first read:

      "

Please, fellow MASSholes, do NOT elect this neckbeard.

My heart goes out to all the gays in Uganda, who are a gazillion times more courageous than I am.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled shit-talking, who else thinks GLAAD should change its name to SMUG?

Great. Just what we need in America: a worse, Britishy version of Jon Stewart on HBO. But more hyper while annoyingly amusing his smug self. Thanks TV network execs of CC/HBO.

You don't speak for those among 300 million plus people. He's as unfunny as people like YOU and/or Jon Stewart. And I find that tragic. All he does is parrot the same news stories .... making fun of easy targets (hardy har har...ha ha! ) as any other talking parrot. GROW UP AND PUT ON SOME CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS.

Much respect to John Oliver - as far as I know, the first and only person with the integrity and humility to make the gesture of apologising in public for the harm caused by wrong-headed Americans. Perhaps other countries should start denying entry to people like Scott Lively and his comrades because they are a destabilising element to society.
