Boy...I mean...talk about "down the rabbit hole."

Seriously, American conservatism, just please, please keep up the good work until your mass compresses into a black hole of wingnut-dom, sucking in everything around it.

    Please?

Please continue to spin out of control until even your crazy conspiracy theories have their own crazy conspiracy theories.

The "paranoid style" in American politics, indeed....

Except that 1/3 of America is more than willing to follow them down the rabbit hole.

And that 1/3 is quite literally dying watching Fox News (median age is approx. 67, I believe).

The status of the "Greatest Generation" in 21st Century America? They can't die off fast enough!

It is akin to referring to chemtrails, or reptilian shape-shifters, or Obama's Kenyan birth certificate.

But they still believe all these things, too. They also deny climate change, think there is a Benghazi cover up and a Fast and Furious cover up and a Vince Foster cover up and a FEMA martial law plan. There is no amount of evidence or discrediting that will change these people's minds.

The conservative media monster is thoroughly ok with them - they're OK with anything that will distract viewer-voters from realizing that they're voting for things that are bad for them. How else do you convince people in states where catastrophic weather is noticeably on the rise that climate change is false? They convinced enough people that the POTUS is probably*not* American that it was nightly news. They're SO good at what they do.

    Ties?

I'm Irish/Catholic from NYC- I have "ties" to the IRA- through an uncle- I have ties to the Westies- an Irish criminal gang in the '70's and 80's through my cousins. I also suspect that I was employed by several bar/restaurant owners with Mafia ties. Shit, my little coach was an alleged captain in the Mafia.

I have "ties" to not one but four convicted murderers- one of them a close relative.

I have a cousin that was featured on America's Most Wanted...

I am not a criminal or a "street" person- I'm a middle class dude that has a middle class job and pays his taxes and all that shit. Outside of some minor vandalism and recreational drug use in my teens and twenties I am not a criminal-

Ties? Who the fuck doesn't have "ties"? You pull anyone's life apart you'll find "ties"- it doesn't mean shit...

The real irony is that conservatives hold themselves up as legitimate arbiters of reality, more so than liberals, with our "political correctness" et al. Yet their entire party is basically a series of batshit conspiracy theories that fall apart if you look at them too long, like those $2 t-shirts on Canal St.

Yet they sell this shit 24/7 on FoxNews to their yokel audience, reassuring them that they are in fact smarter than all the college professors in the world, put together, because they get their news from Fox and are in on all the secret conspiracies that the libtards don't want them to know about.

It would be sad if it weren't so corrosive to democracy, that you can sell resentment to a political movement whose members are actively anti-intellectual and in large part emotionally deranged and looking for somebody to hate.

But you got to love the Heritage Foundation - you get some funding from rich cynical billionaires, call yourself a Foundation, and you can peddle all sorts of bullshit from the confines of faux-respectability, when deep down in your heart, there is simply nothing there.

Funny that the ones who are quick to trot out Hitler in reference to liberals use exactly Goebbles' methods of propaganda and disinformation to advance their agenda.

I'm not trolling you here but are these people really conservatives? I'm sort of afraid that you're right. I dunno. I think in my mind's eye I always thought of conservatives as people with reasonable beliefs that just didn't reconcile with my own. We could disagree and, although not always the case, do so without being disagreeable. But those I disagreed with politically, socially, etc. weren't conspiracy theorists. Ts type of shit is first rate whackery by the irrelevant and powerless. Is that what conservatism has become? It makes my skin crawl to think I ever bothered to disagree with them.

This is so corny but I wonder what Bill Safire would make of all of this?

Climate Change, supported by a vast wealth of scientific research. FALSE.

The parking lot for the Heritage Foundation is directly below one of my windows, and next to my apartment building. I'm always curious about who comes and goes, haven't recognized anyone yet. Although I did see Mitch McConnell buying a half gallon of milk at the corner store. Weirdo. Who drinks milk as an adult?

I know someone that believes in them. This person has a great job, a good family, etc. They are successful by all standards. And they freaking believe that lizard people (aliens) are hiding amongst us. And yes, this person votes.... (btw, the voting is all across the board and is usually personality based so they are just as likely to support a Green candidate as a Tea Party member)

Excerpt from an actual conversation I had with a conservative acquaintance I normally avoid political conversations with. She is a Fox News fan, btw, and not stupid when it comes tho other subjects.

Me- No, I don't think our government is being infiltrated by the Muslim brotherhood.

Her- What about Anthony Weiner? What about his wife?

Me- Weiner's done. No more elected office for him, especially president. Your time would be better served worrying about the lizard people. His wife has a better shot, but I doubt she'd go for it anytime soon.

    Her- She can't, she's a Muslim.

    Me- She's an American.

Her-She's a Muslim! She can't run for office! It's in the constitution!

    sigh.

Don't you know that everyone born in America is a blue-eyes, blonde-haired Caucasian? If you're brown you were obviously born in Kenya and then moved to Mexico so you can sneak across the border and steal our freedom! DUH!!!
