But Josh Groban is so dreamy. He is already much better than The Voice's Carson Daly, who, after fifteen years of being on television, still hasn't displayed a teaspoon of charisma.

I literally only know about this happening because my mom paused it and yelled for me to come out of my room so I could see my boyfriend on TV. I'm embarrassed that he's part of this shitshow.

Yes, I don't expect much out of this show other than that sweet Groban goodness.

Just swipe left, the Rising Star app works the same way. (Though it has been renewed for second seasons in Israel - the format's home country - and here in Brazil.)

Here in Brazil (where the show is called "SuperStar" and it features bands instead of solo acts and duos - BTW, Rising Star is an Israeli format), it was even more awkward: the first test of the app was THE VERY FIRST LIVE SHOW! Tons of people were having problems with the app, and many bands didn't make the cut because of such problems, which were only solved by the 2nd episode!

The Brazilian version was the first edition of Rising Star outside of Israel (and the first - and still only one - to feature bands), and testing the app in the very first episode, instead of a preview special (or even during The Bachelor or something like that) was an epic fail, especially because Brazil is many, many, many times bigger than Israel.

Welcome to 2014, where we have helicopters that can't land because of clouds.

Also, how long til 4chan or other like minded group decides to troll this, somehow.

" The situation was made worse by the fact that judge Ludacris was stuck in his helicopter and couldn't land because of heavy clouds." Ugh same.

Are any of you familiar with "dial testing?" That is something used by focus groups to determine what parts of a speech or tv show work better than others by having people turn a dial up and down in real time. Then the graph is charted depending on what the demographics of the people doing the dialing. They can then say, "The 18-29 women demo loved the first part, keep it, they hated the second part when the character Pouchy came on. Dump him next week."

This app will be trying to do something like that. The people motivated enough to down load the app are self selected and will be sending wittingly and unwittingly lots of personal info to the people selling people/eyeballs to the advertisers.

          The show runners can prove:

          1) These people care about one or another of the shows
          2) They are tech savvy enough to download and hopefully use the app
          3) The process of downloading (via Facebook?) will give them additional demographic info which they can provide to advertisers. "These people are engaged in the show more than any others. Advertise on the app and get 100 percent views. You can pick and choose the demos and their interests based on where they are located, age and gender. "

Finally, did you know the phrases, "Death panel," "death tax," "snowflake babies" and "partial birth abortion" as well as other right wing rhetoric, is tested by people like Frank Luntz? The have done a lot of testing on these words to see if both their target audience loves it AND the left wing hates it. They have figured out that it is not good enough for their base to love it, they want it to angers the left too. They found that if the left hates it, they use it over and over trying to debunk it. In the process of debunking it they use that phrase again and again, cementing it in the minds of the everyone, (including the "neutral" or "liberal" media)

I actually did this back in the 80s. I was walking along the street near Rockefeller Center, enjoying an afternoon in the city, when someone official-looking from NBC approached me and asked if I would be willing to participate in an audience test for a pilot TV show. I decided it sounded interesting, so with other people I went up the elevator to a viewing room and sat in a theater-type chair with a dial in the armrest. We were told to turn up the dial when we liked a character or something was funny—that sort of thing. The show wasn't good, so my dial was down quite a bit. I don't know what it was called, but one of the stars was Laurence Luckenbill. I'm pretty sure it never aired.
