The reason we haven't seen this kind of philanthropy since the days of Carnegie and Rockefeller is because that's the last time we had a government so hobbled and demonized — of course the government can't offer more money for research and important social causes, that would require a budget increase! But don't you dare think of taxing the rich one cent more!

The same thing that requires them to be our angels is the thing that allows them disproportionate amounts of wealth.

Or instead of increasing taxing they could just cut funding from the bloated bureaucracy that has become our federal budget. Stop spending money we don't have and what not.

Why is his plan for a flat tax of 17% so terrible again?

Because it's a not-entirely-novel way for the rich to chew up and shit out the poor?

"I should pay less taxes, and people one medical bill from bankruptcy should pay more" is not so much a plan as it is thoughtless whining.

At least no one is as bad as Frick. Frick was a douchenozzle. Caused 10k+ deaths just so he could make the road to his private club accessible via carriage. Even Carnegie disowned Frick.

Says the guy whose Wikipedia page doesn't even contain the word "philanthropy." Although he sometimes donates money—he gave $37,000,000 to his own presidential campaign.

I suppose if I had more money than I could ever hope to spend in 10 lifetimes, I might use a pittance of it to help the poor, as some rich do. However, it's healthier for the country if people simply get paid enough to live off of, rather than having to depend on the rich for "help".

There is no terminal for private jets. You just drive up to the hangar. Do you even own the jet? Or are you just riding net jets?

          1. Dude needs a dentist. Looks like one of his teeth is trying to escape.

          2. The sad paRt about this photo—for me—is that i once owned a very similar pair of glasses. I can only hope they didn't make me look like such an asshole.

Any other olds in the house? Whenever I look at Steve Forbes I can't help but think of his father Malcolm, a fabulous gay leather-daddy—-he was a fixture in the National Enquirer of my youth, always squiring Liz Taylor to various fetes on his Harley Davidson.
Poor Malcolm must have been devastated to have such an ugly, humorless heir. You think having a closeted father with an affinity for sailors and assless leather chaps would teach a child some compassion, but apparently not.

The past two decades have spawned a new wave of billionaires who've have taken up the banner of social justice

If he means Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, don't they both argue for higher taxes on the very rich?

I mean I know the rich like to hold the button over our lives but damn.
