He's a great guy and so many English people hate him. He's really sardonic and dry and he cares about winning. I cheered and cried when he won Wimbledon last year. My husband's Scottish and of course loves Andy. Judy Murray is a great ambassador for the sport and I love the way she gets right into the matches when she watches him. Wimbledon and the World Cup— crazy sports time in the Chitlins household!

Do they? I've never seen much evidence of people hating him. Some people get arsey in the way they do about any successful sportsperson, but he's roundly liked in my experience.

Mauresmo was an excellent player. Good on Murray.

(She also got a lot of that looks-based crap because she was competing with Kournikova, Sharapova and the young Williams sisters, back when the WTA looked like it was just going to start hiring straight from the Ford Agency for a while.)

(also because she's been openly lesbian for quite a while- if you ever needed more reason to hate Martina Hingis, here:

At the time, Mauresmo dismissed the comments as "a little stupid" and went on to beat both of these players in major competitions.

      I love this sentence.

You found 4 people on twitter who were "against" this (two who were clearly just making jokes) and you turned it into a story?

You guys should strive for better than this.

Edit: 12 on the Buzzfeed article, six of who were cracking jokes. So a little better, but still a complete non-story.

Edit 2: Just checking on twitter, it looks like positive responses outnumber negative responses around 15/20-1 after scrolling through a few searches. The real question is: Why must you be offended by some random people on twitter who have a couple dozen followers?

There are literally no comments on this tennis.com article that say negative things about Mauresmo being a woman. There are criticisms of her as a player and a commentator, which are justifiable.

My first thought was "Wait, Amelie Mauresmo is a coach now? Gawd I'm old."

She's only two years older than Serena and Li Na, #1 and #2 in the world. She just retired semi-early. Don't feel old!!

It is not unprecedented in tennis for a woman to coach a man. Jimmy Connors was coached by his mother, Gloria. Djokovic's first coach was a woman, Jelena Gencic. Billie Jean King once coached Tim Mayotte. Andrei Chesnokov, who reached the top 10 in 1991, was coached for his entire career by Tatiana Naumko.

Plus, she's only a former World Number One and 2-time Grand Slam champion.

I think if he defends at Wimbledon it will shut most people up, though there will still be some fussing as some people are only happy if they are complaining and someone can hear them.

        Ppl can B dum.

Well Andy was coached by his mother, plus to hire a female coach when he is at the peak of his career (he is the Fifth best tennis player in the world) is unprecedented.

Also i am not surprised that he hired a female coach because unlike many sexist tennis players he has always praised female tennis players and never looked down on them, plus all these sexist idiots forget that his mother used to train him.
