Let's see if I can remember some of the old bumper stickers I often saw on 4x4s while growing up deep in California Red Country: "I Don't Break For Tree Huggers!" "When Logging is Outlawed, You Can Wipe Your Ass with a Spotted Owl!" "First Earth! We'll Log Other Planets Later!"

Barf. I remember that a kind of redneck-y ex of mine (he was very handsome and we were very young) would sometimes use the term «tree-hugger» as an insult and I always thought «what's wrong with hugging trees, jackass?».

It is indeed a slippery slope.

UGH. When will the liberal media stop calling these "mass huggings," and return to calling them "murders"? Blatant anti-hug propaganda.

I like the environment too! But you are embarrassing me a little.

The trees did not comment, for they are overly demure.

Meanwhile over here, were taking families to court for speaking out about the effects of fracking on their health and lives.

...and then because this is Gawker, Maoist rebels descended upon the crowd and slaughtered them to the last woman and child.

Hey, these kids are what, like 14/15? I did some things when I was 14/15 that I'm not proud of. Give them a break. Time was, a whole 8th Grade class could go out and plant a tree each and nobody would ever know. Back then we didn't have the Ministry of Forests and Soil recording every fucking thing.
