Seeing this cover made my day. Laverne deserves all the success she achieves.

I don't know...I mean I would love to see her get one but there might be a few other members of that cast who need to be in line first. Let's split the difference and say that the entire cast of OITNB deserves an Emmy.

And Time falls right back into the mire of choosing a cover that screams trans = bodies instead of trans = humans. Laverne's face alone would have delivered the trans message better a hundredfold.

Why stop there, just one eye with a raised eyebrow.

Are you serious though? Just like when Ellen was on the cover of Time announcing she was gay. They showed her entire body and squatting. Were they telling us that gay people are nothing more than squatting bodies?

Ellen was an entertainer who at the time was not explicitly a civil rights icon. Cox here is, and yet the pose clearly implies seduction and objectification as if to say, "welcome, trans women, to the world of misogyny!" Cox has shut down interviewers before for their insistence to talk only about her and other trans women's bodies. This cover only perpetuates that mindset that seeks to simplify these women to their curves and genitalia.

I don't mean to objectify, but she is ridiculously freaking hot.

I feel like they realized that people want to read about Laverne cox with all the time's people polling and in order to probably sell copies of a "magazine" they put her on the cover, that was the pessimistic side of me. The optimist, you go girl!

I have been waiting 20 years for the country to recognize this as a human rights issue.

I wonder if Time purposefully modeled the cover to have their name resemble Tia.

We used to play bike polo with a Trans hipster girl (er, yea, girl). I was totally fine with it. Not totally fine with the fact that she would wear ultra-short shorts and had occasional penis-slip-outage. Not cool. If you have to do it for yourself, please do so. Please take the couple minutes of effort to not make it as awkward as possible for the people trying to help you assimilate.

How is that not seen as anything but constantly hilarious?

Also "Bike Polo?" oh my. And a Trans-girl's dick making an un-scheduled appearance is your biggest Awkwardness concern in this endeavor?:)

Bike Polo is kind of big all over, and actually teaches insanely good bike handling skills.

But yea, you're right. Its just kind of disrespectful to everyone else. Its a wide group of people who are trying to be accepting of a large man wearing skimpy girls clothes as they transition into a new life.

Running around with people seeing your dick hanging out is kind of a slap in the face to decency.
