So, wait—you took a national holiday meant to honor the service and sacrifice of those who have served, are serving, and often died serving in the US military as an opportunity to pen a poorly constructed political sniping session with a healthy dose of regional bias? I, like most folks I know, find the Tea Party to be championed largely by whackadoodle blowhards—but there are these things called tact, timing, and consideration for others.

This article implies that you are sorely lacking in these things. Yertle the Turtle (McConnell, as he is referred to locally) deserves all the lambasting we can foist on him, but he's also the senior Republican in Congress—he was never going to be unseated in the primary by Bevin. His Democratic challenger has some hope—but given the power and general spending habits of the Kentucky GOP, I'm not holding my breath.

The long and the short of it is that you could've saved this for tomorrow—or published it yesterday. By framing your ill-advised snark-job against and around Memorial Day, you've managed to come off less as an informed, articulate observer of the American political process, and more as a bitter, petulant child.

If this is what you're doing with your life, then I do hope you sleep well at night.

    Signed,

-A Liberal Voter Living in the South

I think you're getting Memorial Day and Veterans Day a little jumbled here.

Are you really comparing political candidates, to being in the military and fighting during a war? What are our currently military doing? Well still fighting and dying in Afghanistan, for one, while also stationed and in some cases, fighting, in other part of the globe (they just dont get the same coverage as Iraq/Afghanistan, but did you know we have troops fighting Al Qaeda in Africa?). Not to mention the countless thousands who have already sacrificed their bodies and their minds to war machine of the last decade and are at home just trying to survive and rebuild. Sorry if their sacrifices are not as glorious and made for "movie' as those who fought in past wars. The landscape, how and who we fight, has changed but it doesnt lessen what these soldiers do every day.

You're a douche. And not just a regular douche but a really really fucking stupid one.

No one forced you, or other vets, to join. It was a choice. And sadly a misguided one IMO.

Seriously. We, as a country, need to get over this whole "you can't criticize soldiers"

Why the fuck not? Widespread troop protest was one of the things that ended that quagmire in Nam'! You don't have to join and fight Obama's never-ending crusade to destroy Afghanistan and Iraq. You don't have to displace millions of people and create more of a terrorist threat! You don't have to blow up weddings or push a trigger and kill an entire family because a "pattern" of movement looked like it "might" be terrorism. You can be a labor activist if you want to make a real difference. Work at a battered women's shelter! Be a social worker! A judge! Anything, really, other than helping to try to preserve America's shrinking empire. errr...nation-building. Whatever the fuck they're calling invasion and country-destruction on false premises these days.

at what point does Gawker become a joke?

The premise of this article seems to be "there was a primary election and today is memorial day. There's got to be an article in there somewhere"... and proceeds to artlessly insult losing candidates.

got anything better than "mouth-breathing hillbillies"?

and our supposed patriots in the Heartland just swoon over Vladimir Putin's manly courage instead of planning an invasion of Moscow.

Has anyone in our government never played Risk? You can NEVER take Russia. NEVER. I don't care what army you have.

What do you mean board games aren't real life? I could have sworn I've been playing Monopoly for the past twenty years.

Please explain to us exactly how Russia has "stomped all over us." How many of our ships have they sunk? How many of our planes have they shot down? How many casualties have they inflicted in the battles in which they routed us? Cite your sources.

You are obviously a hysterical fool who neither knows nor cares what truth and accuracy are. You are a disgrace to the word writing, to intelligence, to sanity, to honesty, and to protoplasm. You should have stayed away permanently because the internet does not need any more lies, hyperbole, and rancid bullshit.

Marine General Smedley Butler said, " I served in all commissioned ranks from a second Lieutenant to a Major General. And during that time, I spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street, and for the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism."

Ha Ha! And they said, they fight for our freedom...LOL

What Kenwell Lanye fails to mention is that Freedom Isn't Free and the Tea Party knows this. These candidates have made the Ultimate Sacrifice for their country and they will be missed and will be in our Hearts forever.

While I sit here reading this on my iPhone, wearing my NWU's on a duty day (my last Memorial Day while active duty as I retire at 20 in February)........I can't help but think how completely distasteful this article is. And that is the first time I've ever said that about something I've read on Gawker.

I love Gawker. I come here multiple times a day.

But I think you guys finally let the sarcasm get the best of you.

I can't express my personal feelings about my Government and my leaders in a public forum like this, but you can. Regardless of your feelings of anything military related post 1950 doesn't and shouldn't negate those that defended your freedom to be able to post nonsense like this during both World Wars with their very lives.

          That's what today is for.

I think our fallen soldiers died so that Ken could be snarky on Memorial Day and so others could clutch their pearls and squeeze their hankies. I know that's why I served, fwiw.
