We don't have the whole story, because the Fords are big fat liars, but apparently on May 1st, he flew to Chicago to go to rehab there, and then once he landed, 'decided not to enter immigration' and turned around and flew back to Toronto. I'm assuming he did that because he was told he would be turned away and wanted to save the embarrassment. Because you know how this guy is always concerned about appearances.

I know the Toronto Star is on the hunt for the rehab location, and I'm sure it will turn out to be a spa.

Travellers from Toronto actually clear US customs at Pearson or City Center airport before even boarding the plane. However I don't dispute that something fishy is going on with this "rehab" stint.

I entered treatment facility for a four week stay for alcohol abuse approximately a year and a half after I graduated college. I haven't had a drink in around seven years, and not wanting to return to rehab had something to do with it.

I don't do AA or work a 12-step program (though I am conscious of the steps after trying AA before) but I emphasize and root for those trying to clean up their lives.

That being said, fuck Rob Ford. Rehab isn't like training camp, it's like a place where a lot of people desperately try to begin healing and many others are forced there by courts or family members. Rob is an embarrassment to addicts/alcohols who really strive to get better, as if being an alcoholic isn't embarrassing enough.

Good for him. Glad to see he's making a positive change, politics aside.

He's not though. He might think he is but it seems pretty clear he views this as something to get over with so he can get back on the campaign trail. He's focused on the election, returning constituent calls, and working out. The rehab is just for show. If he were truly serious, he would have disappeared and not been calling his Toronto Sun mouthpiece less than a week into the program.

This is Ford's pattern. Deny until you can't deny anymore, promise to get better, make a minimal effort at it (which I am sure he thinks is enough) and then start the cycle over.

Politics and getting clean aren't mutually exclusive. There's no surer way to get an addict re-addicted than have them give up their whole life, so when they get back to the real world, they've got nothing left. I'm glad he's continuing his normal life.

When did people become so cynical that seeing someone getting clean became something to make fun of? I'm truly sorry for whatever happened to you guys to make you this way. I hope you feel better someday.

Other than being mayor of Toronto, what job can you have where you can be videotaped smoking crack and not get fired? This is a serious question.

Not here in Ontario. If you have an addiction problem, it's considered a treatable illness and you can't be fired for an illness. Not at first, anyway, lol. edit: actually I think it's considered a disability.

The real story here is that no one knows where Ford is. He apparently spoke to the Toronto Sun's Joe Warmington (a bottom-feeding hack "writer" who has been carrying Ford's water) for this story; after it became apparent that yesterday, Ford had turned around at the border, when it was assumed he was in a rehab facility in Chicago.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if the Ford-Warmington phone call never even happened, and it seems unlikely that Ford is anywhere but his cottage.

Meanwhile, worried officials at the Washington Redskin camp are whispering in the background wondering who to call to come get the big fella eating all the food and talking over the other kids and counsellors.

True. If you pay enough money, you can get any type of "rehab" you want, but the serious programs I've heard of discourage or even ban contacts with the outside world. Presumably, they're part of why you're sick, and you're supposed to be concentrating on getting well.
