      He should know that they're defending his rights as a Mexican-American, but he doesn't deserve First Amendment rights because he's exercising First Amendment rights as a Mexican-American member of the press, or something like that.

These people do not represent the majority. Democrats have won five of the last six popular votes in presidential elections. When will WE take OUR country back? That is the question.

      Well, acting quickly and with significant force would probably end with lots of people getting shot, and it would validate suspicions that the militia types already have, and serve as a rallying cry for much more coordinated and brazen behavior on a national basis.

      If they let it cool off for a couple years, the predicted apocalyptic fight won't happen, the armed support will become divided and/or lose interest and wane, Cliven may end up passing away, and the matter can be unraveled in the courts without much trouble. These kinds of enclaves (true also of cults) invariably collapse after the adherents just get sick of waiting around for a fight that never comes... their families get sick of living in the middle of nowhere, their steadfast friends get sick of sitting out in the hot desert sun for years on end, frying their eyeballs on the horizon. Whether these people are aware of it happening or not, they will weaken and their seemingly strong fort will rot and collapse from the inside out. I'm sure the FBI is already working on infiltrating the place and learning how they work. With enough time for an agent or informant to build trust and learn how it's all set up and operating, it might be possible for the whole show to be dismantled without any shots being fired, which is a good goal to work for.

      We need to be careful about casting this as a majority-minority battle. The foundations of the nation were set up to protect minority rights and offer recourse under representative government and a framework of laws. Cliven and his pals don't recognize the laws, and that's where the problem is and the place to which the actions of law enforcement need to be directed. I'm all for the delicate approach, in this case.

      You clearly do not understand the mindset of a bully, which is typical for victims of bullying. This has nothing to with the law or property, or anything. This is a bunch of right wingers pushing people around because they can, and because nobody will do anything about it, not even the federal government. And as the federal government sits on their hands in response to this terrorist behavior by the extreme right, it only increases. When bullies are not stood up to, they get worse. That is what we're seeing. These extremists are playing on your caution.

    Is there any kind of reason that no one has stepped in? If they are actually setting up road blocks how is that legal??? How is any of this legal?       Militiamen set up sniper nests and put women and children between them and the cops so the cops backed down. That has pretty much been law-enforcement policy since Ruby Ridge/Waco. Public opinion turns on the police when they shoot white people.

    I love the "you take care of your old people" line - Bundy is symptomatic of the insane paranoia among a certain group of white people in this country, but it's clear his personal racism is driven by ignorance not hate, for what little that is worth. I can't tell you how often I meet old people who seem to think the only issue with sweeping racial generalizations is if they aren't phrased as compliments.
