Awww! Real question: do you notice any problems your cat has due to lack of tail? Balance issues? Self-esteem problems?

When I first got her (7 years ago), she hadn't lived in a non-shelter environment since having her tail amputated, so she didn't really know how to run and jump without it. I brought her back to my apartment that first day and she spent the whole time running from one end to the other trying to jump onto the windowsill and not quite making it. She kept crashing into the wall or not lighting on the sill just right. She did this for days. Now she's like a little mountain goat.

But yeah the self esteem problems haven't gone away.

There's an add-on joke somewhere in here… a Nine Deaths Panel, maybe?

Olivia Pope handled it particularly well, that's why we don't know.

You know B613 had something to do with Smokey's death.

      Old age, my ass.

I think it's awesome that no one knew. That the only creature over at 1600 Penn who can have privacy and "just be" is some sad, tailless cat.

RIP, Smokey. I hope they treated you well.

Hey now... there is nothing inherently sad about tailless cats !! My two Manx were/are the furthest thing from sad. They are some of the sweetest, most unique cats ever !

Smokey may have been sad that nobody recognized that a Manx had claimed the White House (as has been prophesied), and probably just wanted the damn WH gardener to plant some nip and bow before him.

Obviously Secret Service or CIA. I've heard tell he waterboarded Bo in an attempt to get information about a pile of chipmunk carcasses.

Without a doubt, no one expects Cat Secret Service! But I feel much safer with him around, though he may have an anti-ginger bias....

I was going to say that of course the President has some secret White House tail (nudge, nudge) and then I read the part about him having no tail and now I am ashamed of myself.

My parents have a cat named Smokey; it's a 20 pound grey-furred behemoth with a serious catnip habit. He was my brother's high school pet, but he had to leave him behind when he went across the country to Colorado. He's a pretty sweet cat, generally speaking, though he definitely does some street fighting based on his scabs.

He's definitely named that because my brother loves marijuana, which is the reason he moved to Colorado as well.

Ha, I love the reason your parents' cat is named Smokey. When I went off to college my parents separated and my mother got herself two kittens. She named them Smoke and Fog. My kid sister (she was in high school) renamed them Bacardi and Corona. They were the runts of litter and so adorable.

Corona passed away when I was pregnant with Mini-Scylla, but Bacardi (all 15lbs of furball adorableness) lives with Mr. Scylla, Mini-Scylla and me. She's joined by Moonshine, a stray we found in an apartment building that was about to be torn down.
