And not every commenter on Jez/Gawker is American and grew up around cholo culture, so get off my lawn.

I am POWERLESS against this haircut, on boys or girls. It just destroys me. I can't even hate Macklemore, and god knows, god knows I've tried. The haaaaiiir. Back when I worked retail I was once unjustly yelled at by a tetchy Cillian Murphy and I was burning with righteous indignation over it until the next episode of Peaky Blinders and then I was all "Touché, Murphy".

YES. I also find it universally hot and irresistible!

Great Cillian Murphy story, BTW. (Boo to him being a jerk, though!) Ooh, that GIF . . .

On the name: I just call it a "1920s haircut," which is what I called it before it became a trend. My favorite variant is the long hair undercut or the "Jason Newsted" (which precedes him, but he's famous for it . . . so whatever).

I give you actor Michael Pitt during his stint on Boardwalk Empire . . .

. . . and bassist Jason Newsted once upon a time.

But—how long before some hipster goes the full Gary Oldman in The Fifth Element?

I had that haircut...back in '93 or so. Fortunately, my hair grew out really fast. :)

Ah, beat me to it! On him and other attractive young guys (preferably in bands), I like it. Brad Pitt...just no. Am I the only one that thinks that looks terrible?

There was an interview where he admits that his haircut is the result of letting it grow to an enormous 'fro, then shaving the sides off because he didn't know how to cut his own hair. So he's really amused by the comments he gets on it.

His face kinda looks like my boyfriend. The hair, not so much. Anyway, I've been sending this picture to him for weeks.

If you are an exceptionally good looking guy, yes you can get away with it. Because you are exceptionally good looking you can pull off almost anything. BUT most guys are not exceptionally good looking even if they think they are. So please no.

You beat me to it. When my friend from NYC came to visit Seattle a few months ago, he said, "Why does every dude in this town look like Macklemore?" I just shrugged and said, "Let's go pop some tags."

My friend bartender turned up with this cut when I saw him on Friday. First thought, dayum, Carlos, you look gooood. Second thought, hey, didn't I see that cut on JT, Brad Pitt, Aaron Sanchez (recent Chopped episode), etc? Yes, yes I did and it still looks good. Please don't ruin it with Hitler Youth no matter how accurate it might be. Sanks.

Yeah, this is a man-candy bartender haircut. There's nothing wrong with it. It just seems like the male version of dyed black blunt bangs on a lady. It looks good on most people, but then everyone that has it starts to look the same.

A German friend had this haircut, and his parents for real pulled out a photo of his grandfather and said "with the haircut you look so much like him..."

I've been calling it the "hipster high & tight" simply because I didn't want to call it "hitler youth." It has served me well.

"High & Tight" is already a haircut term over here, a very 1950's and/or army haircut. The hipster part is the stylish poof on top.
