Guns are fun. That's why I like them and am very opposed to banning them. Piers never got that and the gun grabbers never got it. It's partially why the efforts to ban them here are so unsuccessful and why people who go on TV and make it their life's mission to ban them wind up cancelled.

Do they kill people? Yea, sometimes they do. It's a colossal bummer when it happens, nobody enjoys that part. But you know, a lot of fun things kill people. Sports cars, also very fun things, are pretty efficient killers. A two seat Corvette has almost zero practical uses, but we have it anyways and put up with its dangers because it's a hoot. Drinking? Absolute riot (combine it with guns, oh my god you've never had as good a time in your life), but utterly pointless, and almost always detrimental, for any purpose aside from having fun.

I could go on forever listing other stuff that's enjoyable but ultimately dangerous to us and people around us. I'm thinking of a new thing every few seconds as I write this post that fits that description. The practical uses of guns are pretty minimal, I guess if someone invaded my home (why would they?) I could blast em. And maybe if the despots in control of our government crossed the line one too many times I could shoot one of them (but if it came to that point I don't think guns would even matter). But the real answer, Piers, is that I own them because I enjoy them. Our lives on this planet shouldn't be spent constantly thinking of ways to sacrifice living at the behest of lifespan. That's boring, that's climb into your Prius, sit in traffic, work in a cubicle and wait to die. Have a little fun, shoot some logs and cans, it's a good time.

  Just because other things kill, doesn't mean you stop trying to reduce gun deaths. That's like saying since cancer kills, we shouldn't try to cure AIDS.

  Then again, is that what you truly want? For every person who comes over to assimilate into the same brand of patriotic Murrican? Before I always thought I'd really like America because you have all of these diverse cultures, but if you would expect everyone to assimilate in a big melting pot, and for every media to cater to the same bland patriotical american 'person' then what's the point?
