This is something I never knew I wanted to do before I watched this video.

I even found the putting the parachute away fascinating.

I've jumped out of planes and STILL don't want to BASE.
There's just something comforting about knowing you've got a couple thousand feet to deploy the reserve if the primary fouls.
But a night jump is on the schedule. And mine probably won't be as well lit as theirs was. (I'll be jumping in the Midwest. Less light(s)/pollution).

Indeed, with the density of Lower Manhattan, I couldn't help but wonder "what if he overestimated his downward descent angle and found himself careening toward another building before his chute could deploy." Of course, I've never BASE jumped, so I'm sure this fear was unfounded.

Still though. Tall buildings. Density. Steel, glass, concrete, and asphalt. Pretty scary.

I have to admit that right as he jumped, I thought of the people falling from the buildings during 9/11 and it made me slightly uncomfortable. But after I got that thought out of my head, I saw how cool the jump was. It's a good thing he didn't land on a car or worse, get hit by one when he landed in the intersection.

I don't think those people that had to leap to their deaths were thinking on the way down how cool the jump was. :(

It's not called the Freedom Tower, it's called 1 World Trade Center...

And thank goodness for that. Freedom Tower is the worst, most jingoistic name.

Would you please stop with the jingoistic and former (pre-building) name of the building?

Long before the building was above ground it was announced that it would not be "Freedom Tower" but the more appropriate One World Trade. The complex is "the World Trade Center," not the "Monument to the Greatest Intelligence Fuck Up by an Administration." Freedom Tower was put aside and all of the buildings are like named as they were and as they should be.

These guys are complete idiots who had absolutely no regard for the safety of people and property on the ground. If any of them had experienced a canopy malfunction, they wouldn't have had the altitude to deploy a reserve canopy, if they were packing them at all. Most BASE jumpers don't bother with the extra weight because they know they have just one shot at a successful canopy deployment. That means that if your main fails, you burn in and go splat. What if one of them went splat on a person or a car? It would likely kill an innocent and unaware bystander. I really hope these jackholes get some jail time for this.

Why, why, why must nearly EVERY awesome looking stunt I've seen in the last 3 years be filmed with craptastic fish eye lenses? GoPro? No, GoHome and come back with a decent 18-35mm lens so I can see what the hell I'm looking at like a normal, moderately sober person. Seriously, why are those things popular? Can someone please explain this?

Very carefully. ;) Seriously, there are other comparably sized, lightweight cameras out there with better image quality than GoPros. I don't understand the popularity beyond good marketing.
