HOW is this possible?? I haven't seen the show but I've read all the comics and they're brilliant. What a crock.

      "How is this possible"

....was exactly the same thing I said when I got permanently banned from Jezebel for posting a Boondocks episode!

      What the fuck!?!?

What was the reasoning for that?

Aaron gave up the show because while he was principle in creating it he originally created the strip with two friends, one of whom who did quite a bit of the writing. When they fell out the strip turned into a long rant about the Bush Administration. When he started the show, comic writer Rodney Barnes, who eventually became exec.producer, was responsible for the bulk of the writing. When Rodney and Aaron fell out, Aaron couldn't deal with pressure to write the show on his own and sold it to Cartoon Network. Aaron, while talented, is kind of unfocused, vindictive and self-defeating. Whereas other creators would have rode their cash cow into the sunset, at the end of the day, Aaron doesn't care as much about Boondocks as it's fans do and previous writers did.

And duh, I'm anonymous because I still work in this industry and all this drama involves my friends, past employers, writing partners, ex-friends and friend-of-friends.

Believe me, if I didn't know the truth, I wouldn't believe it. I was in love with Aaron when Boondocks appeared in the comics. Never meet your idols (or the people they screwed over), it gets depressing/weird real fast.

What horseshit. I'm not the biggest fan of the show, but how the hell can they have The Boondocks without McGruder? He IS the show.

A Boondocks without Aaron McGruder probably isn't a Boondocks I'm interested in watching. That being said, considering the lengthy process of creating an animated show, I find it weird that McGruder's acting like he had no idea this was coming.

I don't understand, if it starts airing next month and McGruder just stopped being involved last week then aren't the episodes filmed already and it doesn't matter? Is he just being excluded from the promotion?

That would be like having South Park without Trey Parker and Matt Stone, or Community without Dan Harmon for that matter. Some shows are so tied to their creator(s) that without them they're... well... different shows.

I hope so. I mean, either that or they went ahead and produced an entire season behind his back while maintaining that the show was on hiatus, which doesn't sound all that likely.

I've never found this show funny and never understood its popularity.

Nope. I don't find it funny at all. And I'm black! Not sure if that makes a difference or not in getting the humor. It's all too on the nose for me.

There's something going on with his contract, that's the vibe I'm getting. Someone didn't read the fine print.

Jesus Fucking Christ - and I thought The Venture Bros. took a fucking long time between seasons. Why the damn hold-up? It's not like MaGruder was busy writing and drawing the comic since it's been on hiatus for god knows how long.

Yes, I know he was involved in that Red Tails flick, but come on - did that really require him to leave Boondocks hanging for years?

AS supposedly thrives on cheaply made crap, while "lavish" productions like Venture Brothers and property acquisitions like Anime take a back seat (and cost AS $$$$$, thought that doesn't explain Seth MacFarlane's horrendous crap). Why greenlight a season of Venture Brothers when you can get 3 seasons of Squidbillies for half the price?
