Ew, harsh. Remember, these are the eyes George W. Bush looked into and saw his (Putin's) soul.

Meanwhile in America, President Obama just realized that his bracket has been knocked and that he needs to take another multi-million dollar vacation to get over it.

Putin may be a ruthless bastard, but the guy acts like he means what he says. Obama... not so much.

It sounds like you're admiring the fascist.

That's cool, that's your right. Just realize that Putin is extremely nationalist and an oligarch. I'm just glad that Obama is not like that, because then he'd be G.W.

Remember when Obama was a dictator for trying to *gasp* give people health care. Now he's not enough of a dictator.

I don't understand this starry-eyed gazing at Putin. In some circles it's just anything that's not Obama, I guess.

    Honest question.

How is this any different than the invasion of the Sudetenland?

A powerful military moves into a semi-autonomous region under the auspices of protecting the people there that speak the same language. The invaded country, now weakened by the loss of an important region, is forced to remove its troops and the West hopes to prop up the government by offering financial assistance.

I think we all know how the rest of the story plays out.

Why do warmongers pick WWII as their go-to metaphor? Why not the thousands of times when a country has seized territory from another country without starting a global conflict? WWI might be a more appropriate metaphor in this case: a minor regional conflict escalating into a world war because of a need to "act tough" against "aggression."

Because this is about all the Russian military is capable of. They aren't capable of building modern warships, and France ain't delivering the ones they ordered.

I'm fascinated by this annexation. I guess just the idea that Putin can sign a piece of paper and the peninsula will "belong" to Russia. Something else I've been wondering - does anyone actually know where Viktor Yanukovych is now?

Because they are NATO. Any direct claim by a NATO country on Russian occupied territory would lead to a wider conflict. Simple.

Next stop, eastern Ukraine. Putin is going to throttle that part of the country till it becomes ungovernable. The bogus government in Kiev will then be compelled to send troops to restore order (bait), and Putin will make his move.

It's not so much about Putin, I just abhor the overthrow of a democratically elected government. Whether he's cozy with one side or the other, the office must be respected. Change in regime should be done at the ballot box or parliament should introduce an article of impeachment. You know of a single country that changed regime through 'street revolution' in the last decade that still stands united to day?

Democracy is not a tool of convenience, but one of necessity. By supporting the illegal change in government will only serve to spur similar acts worldwide.
