John Cook still owes many of us money. We'll really miss him.

One of my favorite John Cook moments is when he had to borrow $60 from me for reasons that were unclear. I think he paid me back.

John grossly overpaid and completely failed to pay for lunches I ordered in equal measure. One of us is probably out about $35 but it's unclear who. A question I'll save for God.

My favorite John Cook moment was reading this here lovely thing you guys did. I don't really no what to say other than that I love you all dearly and you have made me very proud in ways I'm probably not gracious or thoughtful enough to fully articulate. I will pay you all back but I'm strapped right now let me just run to an ATM.

Max, you were born for this job and I can't wait to watch you build this site into the national force it is becoming. Also I love your college band the Peacocks, especially the song "Splish Splash Waterfall."

This, this, this, a thousand times: —-> http://gawker.com/5974190/here-i…

I like guns. I have a gun license. I don't believe this is an absolute right. Possessing a gun has implications to people other than the possessor, which means it should come with public responsibilities. There's been an erosion of any sense of public responsibility among gun owners, driven the industry-run lobby that purports to represent them. And there's always been default tendency among governments not to share with their citizens the secrets they keep.

In one fell swoop here—and in his whole career arc—John Cook says: Fuck that noise. Gun owners who have to register with the government should be known and accountable to their neighbors, to the people who select that government. If you have a gun in your house, why are you afraid people might know? You can always shoot them, right?

My favorite John Cook moment was when he was just another bland white guy who did very little to differentiate himself from the thousands of other bland white guys who write stuff online, and then he quit his job and I forgot all about him five minutes later.

Aww good luck, John. I will miss your work. You were a great editor, the best kind, I'd dare say: you allowed your writers to develop their own voices and styles while you appeared to us readers as invisible. I also enjoyed your pieces. I hope you do well in your next gig.

I agree that the Bork piece is the best.

His back and forths with Caity Weaver on twitter is second best. I assume they are dead to each other now and it will stop.
