Let's not forget that she LEFT HER CHILDREN IN A CAR ALONE. Don't be so quick to pay for her ignorance.

How do you take you children out of the car before you get out of the car youself?

She got out to lock her front door. I'm not exactly sure what you felt she should have done differently?

Man, she is going to hold that over her kids when they are teenagers. "Do you know what I did for you?!?"

This woman should start a gofundme campaign for her medical bills. She and her kids deserve a fresh debt-free start.

All that woman knew was that she had to protect what was precious to her. I bet her body moved and reacted without her even having to think. Now THAT'S a grizzly momma or whatever animal it was that Sarah Palin spoke of.

She definitely reacted... instead of thinking. I would recommend opening the door, and putting the e-break on or shifting into park.

I am now taking Prozac to control the onset of depression from this entire article... Kids almost die, mom saves kids risking her own life, just out of homeless shelter into an apartment, mom in wheelchair... HAYZEUS!

Last year my sister left her 7 year old autistic son in the car while she dashed in to get the mail. The car was parked in front of the house, on a steep street, and either she forgot to set the brake or her son lifted up the parking brake and it started to roll down the hill, with my sister screaming and chasing after it. It rolled down the street for about a block and a half gaining speed, smashed into another car, flipped and came to rest at the bottom of the hill. The car was totalled, my nephew was OK, my sister was a fucking wreck.

I feel so bad for your sister! I can't even imagine what she went through or is probably still going through. My toddler fell off a stool and hit her head on concrete a few months ago. She bounced back right away. I still cry about it.

That's terrifying. It must have been the longest few minutes of her life. My brother and I did this exact thing when we were kids, except we drove the car into the house and we didn't have the autism excuse.

My fiancée teases me for putting my parking break on every time I stop the car, even if it's in our flat parking lot. It's for reasons like this that I do it, just always in the habit so that I don't forget on a hill. Poor mom, that was quite the brave thing to do and what a tough break after finally getting out of a homeless shelter. Now I can show this story to the fiancée and tell him to quit being such an asshat.

I'm a parking break person too, I use it in all parking circumstances. Please give your fiancée a middle-finger for me as well.

Oh, and congratulations, may your marriage be prosperous.

Yeah, you're right and he's... a bit strange, but I'm sure he's lovely in all kinds of other ways! Does he explain when the benefit would be of not applying the handbrake? I can't think of a single reason not to do it.

I am so sick of these trolls on this site! This woman did a selfless thing REGARDLESS of how it happened. I wish I had money to give her because after the fact that I realized she's in a wheelchair, she also just came from a homeless shelter.
