Looking at these comments, it's amazing how many people are so loathe to try anything different. I guess that's why these hideous linoleum floors are so prevalent.

It looks impractical and unhygienic with all those edges which no doubt would peel and buckle with water damage.

that's a little harsh, it's hard to pull off anything that has all colors of the rainbow at full saturation. Not liking that doesn't make someone "boring", it's just not that aesthetically pleasing.

I might have to try this in my kitchen!

On Antiques Roadshow someone once brought in old (1930s I think) movie posters they'd found used as wallpaper in the closet of an old house. They ended up being worth a few hundred dollars.

I used photo paper and a black and white laser printer to make my wallpaper - turned out fantastic! I was living in Chicago and found this fantastic site that had pictures of the 'L since it began in the late 1800s and old brochures - it was very cool.

Have fun cleaning that up when you move out. I get its non residue etc, but still. The effort required to pull that all up...

The residue is actually going to be a major problem, I think. Even though the tape says it is non-residue, that really only applies if you use it as directed. This generally means the tape being in use for a short amount of time (like a week) will not leave residue. But leave it on longer and it can leave residue or strip the finish off of existing floors. I found this out the hard way coaching volleyball. We use blue painter's tape (non-residue) to lay down our practice courts on the gym floor at the school. That stuff is supposed to come up clean, but if you leave it on too long (we found about three weeks was the max) it will leave residue or pull the varnish up when you remove it. It gets worse if you mop/swiffer over the tape or if the tape is in a humid/hot place (like a kitchen or bath).

In short, I can't see this project ending very well. I agree that it is going to be a major PITA to take up when you move out.

I was thinking the same about it really just degrading over time, especially in a bathroom. Oh well, to each their own. I'm more of a rug person anyway.

I feel like that floor would make me vomit if I tried to walk on it while drunk.

Not that this is, um, a problem I would face regularly. No.

Yep. This is what I came to comment as well. Dizzying stripes on a bathroom floor spell trouble to me ;)

How to permanently add a layer of impossible to remove sticky residue to your floors.

Hahaha yes, thank you. This reminds me of all the Lifehacker binder clip "hacks" that involve binder clips and water—as if those rust stains won't be permanent.

I shouldn't judge, haha, I'm just glad to be past that point in my life. When I got bored of my first floor linoleum... I bought lumber and refinished it.

Does this mean DIY will be making a regular appearance again? Because I don't think words can express how happy that would make me.

Not to sound like a bitch but I feel like slapping tape on your floor just makes it look cheap and worse than the linoleum. And how do you effectively clean it without fucking up the tape?

The color scheme might not be for everyone, but I think it looks incredible. Especially in a small space. Most people seem to be comparing it to painter's tape, but this is tape specifically made for floors. While I imagine it won't come off perfectly clean, nothing a little cleaning oil won't fix. I might try this on the concrete floor in my basement!

Gives me flashbacks to the early 1970s. I'm not sure if that's good or bad (but it's certainly better than SHAG CARPET in a bathroom!).

This is why everyone says I'm just like "Fluttershy". I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I mean, she worked so hard on this project.
