I think I am the only person on this planet who doesn't like Chipotle. El Guarachon or El Taco de Mexico has the best burritos. Ever.

Disliking Chipotle is actually a whole thing. I mean, plenty of people actually, honestly dislike it, but it's also become shorthand for "I am a much cooler, more authentic person than you." I'm surprised there isn't more hate for it in the comments section here yet; the Jez version of this article has plenty.

I think their meat and beans taste funny and the salsa is weak. I am spoiled though. I grew up eating some pretty good Mexican food (and far more cheaply) so when I had Chipotle I was all, "meh."

My Canadian husband, on the other hand, cannot get enough! I think he wishes there was a Chipotle in our living room. Then again he puts Swiss Chalet sauce on EVERYTHING. So there is no accounting for taste.

    Isn't Chipotle owned by McDonalds?

Your best burrito (although I'm more of a taco lady myself) is at your local hole-in-the-wall place. They probably have better quac too.

Of all the crops that would be negatively impacted by climate change I'm just of surprised that they are worried about avocados. What happened to worrying about the bees? I need them to pollinate those orchards for my daily dose of sugary anti-oxidant goodness for my grapes damn it (which I don't buy organic because I'm a cheap-o)!

I heard this on NPR this morning and the first thing that I thought was "wow I need to figure out if I can grow some
    Avocado at home".

This is exactly how we should be thinking. Bring back the idea of victory gardens and home gardening. I could be wrong, but I think avocado trees do best in semi-arid warm climates.

Hasn't the eat local movement been debunked by now? 10% of the carbon footprint is attributed to shipping. 90% to the resources used to grow food not native to the area. Not to say it's necessarily better in every case to ship, but it's just lazy to assume you're doing the eco thing by buying local.

Source? And what is the threshhold of "not native"? Does your source distinguish between standard agriculture and greenhouses?

      Please clarify.

    "Carbon-coughing transportation"?

Chipotle takes pains to make sure that the food you eat at their restaurant is grown within 350 miles of said restaurant. It's not perfect, but this policy hardly seems rip-worthy.

For reference (and a guide to how long it takes for stories to go from writing to publication), Chipotle has already issued a released a statement saying it has no plans to cut avocado products.

Yeah, everybody's freaking out about guacamole shortages, but I inferred that they just threw that out as an example. They also mentioned they might 86 certain salsas or whatever.
