      Even back under Arthur Carter, who tried to class it up by bringing in talented writers and editors, it was and I suppose still is mainly read by real estate people and by UES old ladies anxious to hear what that scamp Rex Reed has to say about the current cinema.

      During the 1990s they had a great financial columnist named Christopher Byron who wrote hilarious pieces about various Silicon Alley and dot-com fiascos. He was the only person I read in the paper, and when he moved on to the Post that was it for me and the Observer (no, I didn't start reading the Post, either).

      The Observer is basically a wealthy man's toy. From what I've heard, Kushner has played with it like a dim-witted child since his dad bought it for him, so this is par for the course.
