The release of Tymoshenko is huge and if it's true could signal some real progress.

She's no better than the rest, actually. She overplayed her hand and that's why she's was fingered and locked up — it was a power play that put her there, not any kind of high ideals or democratic zeal.

Tymoshenko is no better than the rest of them. She's a real ice queen.

Sadly I think the Ukraine/Russian forces are showing more restraint than the militarized police in the US would show to any sustained homeland protest.

That is the understatement of the century my Freind. There are three reasons why the us has not and probably will not in the near future see mass protest like this. I believe those reasons are that like you said everyone is aware of the excessive force that would be used by the police and or military. The second reason is because most Americans are too lazy to care enough about any issue affecting them we would rather watch honey boo boo or see who some young starlet is fucking this week. The third reason is that most Americans are widely misinformed about things and distracted from key things by the media, go turn on any of the major 24 hour American news stations and watch what they discuss. I tried watching a few weeks ago to get coverage about Ukraine and all they talked about for 45 minutes was justin beiber getting arrested.

The US also has no history of opposition politicians getting thrown in jail. It's probably worth noting that the last time it WAS particularly dangerous to be a political outsider - the late 60s - is also a time when we saw a fair amount of protests and riots. What's the worst that happens nowadays, an audit?

The announcement of elections and the return of the 2004 constitution, this is a huge success showing the rest of the world that every protest does not need to result in a civil war.

Yea your totally right this isn't any better than what is happening in Syria right now. Screw the resolutions made by the president lets just keep on protesting I mean around 100 people are dead so let's just turn it into a few 100,000.
