I honestly thought this was a sponsored post before I clicked and saw how much text there was.

I must say, it would be something if Sotheby's or whoever else sells 14th century antiquities turned to sponsored posts to move merch.

Ahhh! I'm reading a book about time-traveling to this very period in history right now so I am LOVING this! ("The Dooms Day Book", btw) I have had enough of this winter, so I am escaping every single chance I get to another time and place, if only in my mind.

Whatever you do, DON'T OPEN IT.

A hundred movies have been made where some inquisitive auctioneer or museum attendant foolishly opens an ancient handbag belonging to the daughter/courtesan/wife of a far-eastern barbarian nomad warrior overlord, and the only thing that ever comes out is DEATH AND DESTRUCTION. And perhaps a dusty ghost.

Ahem, or DO open it! I would totally watch that movie after a couple glasses of wine.

The Jameel Gallery at the V&A in London is one of my favourite places.

They don't call Iraq the 'cradle of civilisation' for nothing.

Beautiful, but tragic that's its, of course, on exhibit in the UK instead of its home country. Another "exotic" artifact in an imperialist country.

This really needs to be bought up by Qatar and placed in the Museum of Islamic Art. Not only are they trying to become the best collection of Middle Eastern art and artifacts, they LOVE HANDBAGS OVER THERE!

I need to know what was carried in this. What did an 14th century Iraqi noble woman put in it? Make up? Herbs? 14th century tampons (probably made of mud or wood or something crazy like that)?

              I need to know.

We carry lipsticks, cell phones, keys, tampons, etc. in our handbags, I wonder what a 14th Century high-ranking woman of the court would carry in hers...
