      As Business Insider points out, in 2o11, 64 percent of motor vehicle theft was committed by white people, while around 34 percent was committed by black people.

    Despite cries of "editing" and "variables," the most shocking part was that the cop drew his gun(!!!!!) immediately. Watch the video in HD, that's not a taser. Cops are only supposed to draw their weapon if there is imminent danger

      Yeah, I noticed that. I understand trying to be safe, but police aren't supposed to just draw their weapon. And you notice how he swore pretty much immediately, telling the black guy to show his "fucking" hands. Even when the guy told the cop it was his car, he didn't listen.

      In his defense, he was walking up on a person suspectedly in the action of a crime that usually carries a 2 year minimum. On top of that he's doing it in broad daylight. From a cop's perspective this guy is either bold as fuck or crazy. While I can't claim any of these specifically came to his mind, I can't blame him for approaching the situation with plenty of caution. Crazy people of all races shoot people every day for less, why should this cop neglect that fact? Now if he had shot him we'd have one hell of a Gawker article!

    I'm not trying to call shenanigans on this, as I believe it went down as they say it did, but I am hard-pressed to believe the white kid sat there for thirty fucking minutes pretending to try to jimmy into that same car...I mean, I understand why they want to make the stark comparison for the purposes of the experiment, but I think 30 full minutes of someone standing at a car doing that (especially with his quick little masturbation motions — is that really how you jimmy open a car with those sticks? :p) would draw attention, if not from cops, then from someone who will think "shit, that guy is still there trying to get into his car?" and at least try to offer help..

    Here's a version of the same experiment, involving attempted bike thefts in a park. The black kid and the white kid are dressed identically, and do exactly the same things. The results are even more striking.

      I would not call that "dressed in a similar way"

      The white kid has his hat on neatly (even though it's backwards) has his shirt a reasonable length, and is wearing Jeans at a very normal length.

      The black kid is sagging, has his hat barely hanging on to his head, and has a shirt that goes down to his knees.

    I legitimately got a twinge in my stomach once the police showed up near the end. Scary how blatant the racism is. And the most telling thing, I think isn't that most of them looked and dismissed the white guy. Many of those people seemed to be intentionally not looking in the direction of the white guy. Hell, the cop didn't even glance over when he drove past to see why the car alarm went off.

      Really? You think the way it should go down is for the police to assume you're breaking the law in broad daylight in front of a bunch of people? That they should have their weapon drawn and swear at the other person when they haven't demonstrated to be a threat?

      I agree that someone should have probably called the police on the white guy, but make no mistake, the way the black guy was instantly arrested was in no way how that should have happened. You are completely within your rights to break into your own car and the second the black guy said it was his car, the officer should have given him a chance to prove it.

    American cops are so fucking aggressive and generally fucking pricks. Will harass and arrest you for crossing the fucking street.

    Much prefer the police back home. They are always great a defusing situations instead of being aggressive and causing things to kickoff.

      I'd like to point out that those pics and video were taken at Electric Picnic or Castlepalooza, where there is usually never any trouble. The guards are always bored out of their skulls, never on edge and only to happy to be at the festival for pretty much a fun weekend 'off-duty'...You're right about cops in the US, but I've seen guards here do some fucked up shit..

      Any examples? Most of the ones I have heard or seen are totally exaggerated by people.

      Not saying the Gardai are perfect, there is clearly quite a lot of petty corruption and the force is over politicized, not accountable enough, not transparent enough and there unions are a fucking pain in the hole. They are well paid and need to shut up. But I think most of the stuff is fairly petty, people being let of speeding or drink driving maybe or getting warning for drunk and disorderly because they no someone.

      The Guards don't tend to beat the shit out of people even when they deserve it. God knows they must have wanted to smack protesters a fair few times in the last few years.
