"Family City"? "Family values"? "Working families"? "Defending the family"?

    Dear right-wing demagogues,

All cities, by definition, have families; everyone, by definition, has a set of values; everyone, by definition, works and no one, at any point, ever asked for your "defending".

Please stop insulting both our intelligences and just say what you mean to say when you throw around the word "family": "White, heteronormative Christian families where women are treated like sexual cattle". This would be both more precise and less subtly offensive to everyone who doesn't fit your rigid, bullshit Leave it to Beaver mold.

    Thanks,

East coast atheist liberal / lover of his family

"women are treated like sexual cattle"

Do you people really believe this? If so, do you believe that black families treat women differently? Or gay families? Or atheist families? Maybe like sexual sheep or sexual aphids instead of sexual cattle? Is it a good thing for Indian families to treat women like sexual cattle because they worship cows? I want to know!

Bravo, good rant! I hate these conservative catch-phrases too. They're so thinly veiled these days. Along with "family values" they proudly chant "give us our country back", "my bible and my gun" and "drill baby, drill". It's even more amazing that the press/news seems to label these sentiments as "traditional, patriotic views" rather than point out how frightening and obtuse this angry hate mob has become. Fucking insane, eh?

Here is an example of the shirt. It looks like something that would go well with a heavy spritzing of Axe cologne.

I'm a man, but I consider myself a feminist. I don't see these pictures as uniquely awful.

Besides, saying that these images are "sexualized" by the presence of near-nudity is basically agreeing with the conservative idea that there's something inherently sinful about female nudity.

On the one hand the hyper capitalism sexualization of women is a problem for the body image and self-esteem of young girls who are pressured to become unhealthy to look like that, and any young girl who falls outside of corporate beauty norms could feel bad about herself. On the other, methinks that this woman might have been offended by something else, something to do with not letting her 18 year old, legally adult son buy a t-shirt.

Excuse me, Ma'am, allow me to add an addendum to my previous missive: Fuck you, Lady and your fucking intolerant and medieval world view. I would suggest sucking a bag of dicks, but you probably recoil in horror at your husband's one.

When they ask her the reason for returning them I'm hope they don't accept her standard of decency as a valid reason.

No, no manager would deny that return. 98% of the time if a customer complains to home office, they approve whatever the customer wants. And if this lady is going to the lengths of publicly bitching about a stupid tshirt, shed be a royal pain in the ass if her return was denied.

You are being too rational here, over a woman who is from Utah and is probably Mormon and was told that the naked body is dirty and sinful. I wouldn't expect anything less, she probably only had sex that one time to have her son.

Um she's Mormon so I seriously doubt she had sex just once because I'm pretty sure her worth as a wife and mother is determined by the number of babies she is able to shoot out of her dirty sinful naughty bits.

But I get your point. It reminds me of Margaret's line around the 0:25 mark:
