    Certified not cool person here.

I go to the mall to visit

The Children's Place -specifically for t-shirts with horses and cheap ass party dresses for the kid.

Claire's - cheap ass holiday/even earrings/lighted necklaces to wear to Girl Scout meetings

Kohls - cheap ass everything else and shopping for purses with mom

That pretzel place - because cheese sauce

Yeah, Claire's! I got a pair of earrings there in December that are a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, with the post as the spine, so the back legs dangle down below the back of your earlobe, and everybody is hella jealous.

Williams Sonoma—it's fun to look at all the cooking supplies and wonder what it would be like to have a family that loves me so much.

Nobody ever loves anyone that much. You have to plan an elaborate con, let's call it something neat like a "wedding" where you trick your family and friends into buying nice stuff for you.

The mall I grew up going to is the most depressing fucking place on earth. The only department store left is Sears, all of the big box anchor stores except Target have closed and there are maybe 5-10 traditional retailers (Gap, American Eagle, Gymboree) are left. Even the Yankee Candle closed. Most of the stores are now local businesses (the comic book store, eyebrow threading place, shitty crafts store etc.), which is fine in theory but it just doesn't look right. Even the Taco Bell and the McDonald's have left the food court, all that's left are a Subway and the Japanese mystery meat with rice place. Meanwhile, the new open air "mall" two miles away is flourishing even though we live in freezing fucking cold Massachusetts. I don't really get it.

And in answer to the actual question, work. My office building is attached to a large mall. It's really annoying in so many ways I probably couldn't list them all.

I was reading this whole comment nodding along and thinking, "Sounds like Watertown's malls" It wasn't, same state though.

Hi Hamilton—I don't much go to the mall these days, but in the past I would go to mall to scope babes.

    Best,

Yes, White Flint is my hometown mall. No cookies available now even if you wanted them...

For the record, I was one of the Gawker.com staffers defending mall cookies. They are good cookies and certainly better than every type of Girl Scout cookie. Another good thing to eat at the mall is the teriyaki chicken at Sakkio.

What do they put in that stuff because anytime I've walked by one at the food court, the lines are 7 deep. Panda Express is sad and alone, but the kids working the Chick can't sling those nuggets fast enough.

I am by no means a fan of their business practices, but the chicken nuggets, man. The chicken nuggets. Especially with Polynesian sauce.

I actually cried a little when the one in my mall shut down...but by then they had opened a full location half a mile away that was much nicer and had wi-fi. (Of course, their wi-fi blocked certain websites that didn't fit in with their corporate beliefs, but whatever. Some apps still worked.)
