How can Toronto be the 10th largest city in the Americas and have this buffoon as the mayor?

Although I am not suggesting Toronto was ever in bad shape like Detroit, imagine Detroit. And imagine that when Detroit needed money they decided to incorporate all of the suburbs of Detroit into Detroit. So, you have a pretty liberal, democrat focused city center with now all of these far more conservative suburbs with a very different demographic voting for elected officials and worrying about where their taxes go.

You see how in theory this solves everything. Detroit is suddenly enriched by a huge tax base with some more upscale suburbs have a pretty significant income brackets. You can see how in practice it is a disaster because you have a population that is pretty divided in priorities, goals, needs. And then imagine Rob Ford running appealing to the more suburb attitudes and the person running against Ford in Detroit never even bothering to try to get all of those suburb voters to vote for him.

        I think it makes sense.

(Again, I am not suggesting that Toronto was in horrible shape the way Detroit is or was in the 90s. It is just the only city I can think of that really is surrounded by pretty conservative suburbs many of whom intentionally fled Detroit.)

For some reason, I think I've seen about a half-dozen videos of the Toronto assembly/loya jerga/parliament/whatever-they-call-it just dancing around at their desks, and Ellen Degeneres is nowhere to be seen. It's not just Rob, but all of them who are dancing. Was that just a single incident, or is there a lot of dancing in that chamber? Can someone who watches Canadian C-SPAN shed some light on this?

It was a council meeting just before the holidays and a local jazz band was brought in to celebrate a recent partnership with Austin, Texas. Dance party!

I know you Toronto residents would really like a competent mayor & want him out, but I can't get enough of this crazy bastard.

For once, a ceremonial day like this doesn't seem like disingenuous pandering.

Unless the murder allegations are true (in which case, that is obviously a step beyond), I definitely prefer him to most corrupt* US politicians. At least he genuinely seems to enjoy and revel in who he is most corrupt US politicians also seem so dour. And doing cocaine really doesn't bother me that much.

*Obviously, anyone could respond that all US politicians are corrupt and I won't argue with it. But I am thinking the big ones like Christie (no pun intended) or Blagojevich.

GIFs like this just make me feel kind of vaguely sorry for the guy.

Is it possible he's just a little slow in the head...?

              Stir it up!

The "it" being cocaine and baking soda in water, of course.

I'm done giving a shit about Rob Ford. It was fun for a while, but his 15 minutes are over.
