      As an armchair Ornithologist, this story warms my heart. Cuz at first glance at the headline, I thought the thing died.

      Strigidae aren't really the most agile flyers. They have long wings to aid their hunting skills, which basically is from perch to ground and back. Because of this awkward structure, broken wings aren't uncommon. And yes, it's also common for them to be the unfortunate victim of collisons, strigidae vs. car. style, because evolution has taught them to pay more attention to the tasty morsel they spotted instead of the impending doom of such things such as public transportation.

      Which, by the way, DC has really great public transportation. Unlike Baltimore.

        You must not actually ride Metro. WMATA is the worst and no doubt it was a Metro bus driver that probably hit this owl while running a red light while blowing past bus stops with people waiting.
