I saw a black woman yesterday at a restaurant but I didn't write a think piece about it. Considering the world in which we live I am a hero.

What is this referencing?! Has somebody written a thought piece about black people in restaurants and I missed it?

No, she is referencing the dumb piece that was posted yesterday about how some skinny white lady became unraveled at the sight of a black heavyset woman in her yoga class. Here is the original article that was reposted on Jez or one of these sites: http://www.xojane.com/it-happened-to...

Someone needs to tell Sherri Shepherd what the "M" in MRI stands for.

Not to mention her YouTube series of The Cat Whisperer. "I'm the cat whisperer - I whisper shit to cats."

    Tell 'em Devon Sawa!

Also: That yoga class musing has made me paranoid. Will my intense focus on a New Yorker podcast be misinterpreted by some thin white woman as the troubled frown of a negress struggling to order coffee ("I expect it was her first time in Blue Bottle. I could see the confusion on her long brown face.")?

Will the furrowing of my brow while I read Kracauer over lunch be read as deep, racial melancholy ("It's safe to assume it was her first panini. I've seen it before - the freezing at the sight of those grill marks.")?

I mean, I live in the Bay Area. The opportunities for condescending pity Are limitless.

True fact: my husband once looked lovingly at me and said, literally: "Dear, you have the widest hips, ever. It's so awesome." ... And I told him very politely, that I appreciate how much he loves my hips (and he sincerely does, they're his favorite body part of mine) BUT DON'T YOU EVER SAY THAT TO ME AGAIN IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE. ;)

Not the same context, but my brother once told me my thighs were bigger than his, meaning more muscular (because I was in better shape than him). He meant it as a compliment, but I told him to never, ever say that to a woman again.

Mine mentioned the words big, squishy, and butt all in the same sentence. And he thinks my icy glare of death is cute, so I know it's coming back sometime.

      Dammit.

My favorite abortion tv plot line is the one where she decides not to have one and then has a miscarriage.

That happened to me in college. I still laughed at this.
