No. Goddamnit, no. This was such a horrific, obvious case blatant racism ... incidents like this makes me wish we'd hanged every last Confederate officer for treason. Fuck.

We should have hanged them. Pictures are hung, treasonous racist shitehawks are hanged.

Yeah. That would have solved the problems of reconstruction and modern racism! Good job!

So I am so far from a defender of cops that I'm not sure I should be writing this, but I don't think the number of shots is really what matters in these situations. Cops are trained to empty their clips once gunfire starts; there's really no difference between shooting the guy once and shooting him ten times, both from a police perspective and from the perspective of "should I shoot this unarmed black guy, y/n"

so there is no difference between a cop, say, shooting to attempt to incapacitate someone and shooting them full of lead?

His point is that cops are trained to shoot exclusively to kill (shoot to incapacite is 100% Hollywood) so the number of shots isn't what makes this excessive. It's the fact that his target was the unarmed non-threatening victim of a car accident that makes it excessive.

It is North Carolina after all. My friend lives there and says that people there are still very racist.

Your sarcasm is not appreciated. My friend that I am speaking of grew up in North Carolina and is white. This is coming from a white perspective. She hates it.

Depending on the weapon, wouldn't there have to have been a reload in there somewhere? Or do most police pistols hold more than 10 rounds?

Some Googling told me that most police issued firearms have magazines that average between 10 and 15 rounds - and there's always the extra round in the chamber. Sounds like he kept shooting until he was empty.

Police get the "fun" 16-20 round pistol magazines, only civilians have to use the 10 round mags, depending on the state. It's not uncommon to read stories where suspects get shot multiple times by police.

Maybe we should tell cops that it is not shameful if they just ran away when they are scared.

Your statement sounds comical but it's interesting to imagine that it is actually a very helpful and valid point.

Isolating what allows some officers to avoid situations that end in death would be a very helpful thing to know. Maybe they could begin to hire people who were heroic but not power-hungry. There is obviously quite a difference.

    - Get into car accident serious enough to be stunned while seeking help from law enforcement.

Can we actually hear the whole story? Was Ferrell sober when he crashed his car? Was he threatening the officer in any way when he was shot?

Not trying to pick sides or anything and I know the officer was excessive but what else happened??

Would him driving drunk make him any more deserving of getting shot? And apparently his "threatening" of the officer amounted to running toward him yelling for help. But apparently a black person running toward and officer is enough to warrant shooting him 10 times.

There is video from the cop car. He even lifted his shirt as he approached the officer to show that he wasn't armed. This was a murder.

This white girl is coming around. I used to watch those cop shows where the detective goes down to the hood and no one will help with the investigation, and I would think, "those idiots!" But these days I don't even trust cops myself. Like, I wouldn't call the cops if my own kid was acting violent and I didn't know what to do. Because they might shoot them.

George Laughrun, Kerrick's attorney, told The Charlotte Observer that Kerrick "feels like the weight of the world has been lifted from his shoulders."

Except for the weight of killing someone, right?
