This face is bringing back memories. Painful, hair-tugging memories.

My first thought was "ohhh so many people are going to sympathize with the poor girl, as that face has been made so many times across the globe." My curly hair fantasies fly out the window when I hear my friends talk about the upkeep.

I know right?! She's too cute; you'd think, at the very least the universality of THAT FACE would get people to connect with this family. Ugh, I just can't sometimes. I mean, how could you see theses pics and get mad?

Its really sad that people could find anything negative about two loving parents. These two dads seem like a couple of genuine people who are doing there best for their kids. How can anyone find fault in that?

I've made this point before and I'll make it again here: "Twitter backlash" stories are not really stories. They're reverse engineered stories based on trawling the more than 500 million tweets a day by searching for key words of ignorance and bile.

Before you say it, YES there are lots of hateful, small minded people out there. YES, they would otherwise not have been known before twitter (and publicly shaming these people is good), but this method of creating stories by seeking out hate - which was pioneered and perfected by buzzfeed - needs to be put in proper context.

Incidentally, I don't see a link to any of the hateful comments, anyone know where they are?

Many is not all. Has anyone actually read these hateful tweets? I don't really doubt they exist (it's the internet after all) but how can one put the story in proper context without even the slightly bit of quantitative or qualitative input.

The original source everyone's citing Mused Magazine says "I’m not going to list peoples’ comments or anything of the like because ignorance doesn’t belong on MUSED". Well this leaves me wanting. If the entire crux of the story relies on these hateful comments, why not at least link to them?

Don't worry about it. You can't compare your life to other people's. You're on your own path. Just be positive and you'll end up with the exact life you're supposed to have.

(Sorry to word vomit unicorns and gumdrops all over you, but I know that feeling. Until I figured out that I'm on my own path and stopped comparing myself to others, I was having a really hard time, so just trying to spread the love.)

How can people hate LOVE? I just don't get it. So, their relationship and family might not be your cup of tea, but why hate LOVE. Nurture LOVE. It just seems so simple to me. Love LOVE. Do it!

Fear and jealousy. Anger comes from fear. They don't like that the world is changing so they choose to hate on it and try to suppress the change. Luckily, more often than not, love wins over hate.

I'm heading down to my sister and her wife's house next week to celebrate their son's 1 year old birthday. And my stupid, hateful, christian sister will miss out, because she doesn't agree with their "lifestyle". When I think about it, it makes me sad for her. Not only will she miss out on a good time, but she'll also miss out on knowing this beautiful family and this fantastic little guy.

I am jealous at all these dads who can do their daughters' hair. My daughter's kindergarten teacher sent home a note this week, saying she hoped everyone at home was well. My husband has been doing her hair all week because I've been sick with a cold. I usually style it and make it all pretty, so this "brushed with the syrupy fork from breakfast" look is out of the ordinary. Her teacher asked her what was going on with her hair and my daughter told her that her mom was so sick she could be dying and that her dad was doing her hair instead, thus the note.

It's not just daughters. I have three boys, and let's just say my wife and I go through much the same thing. She can't stand to see them with uncombed hair, and I have difficulty wanting to bother when they'll be back to the original rat's nest five minutes later.

I wish this were an original quote but it's not, but it seems like it would apply anyway "If we could look into each other's hearts and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think each of us would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance and care." I find it odd that you identify one of them as "of Chicago" and the other as "of Atlanta." Do they live on opposite sides of the country while trying to raise their daughters? Is this a weird way of identifying where each one grew up?

Eh, not quite. I'm from Atlanta and usually say that. It was probably more to frame their relationship. Both Chicago and (especially) Atlanta have strong African American communities. Its more of a frame of reference I think.

LOL @ the face the daughter is making while getting her hair groomed. My daughter said, "to hell with that," and got locs when she became an adult. Adorable kids and hot dads. Eff the haters.
