    "His suggestion: Stop voting."

This also appears to be the GOP's suggestion, at least for minorities.

It is an incredibly irresponsible, stupid thing to say. Not voting only benefits the status quo. Why else would the GOP be making such an effort to disenfrachise people? Why else did southern states terrorize black people who tried to vote?

In the U.S., at least, research has shown that low voter turnout benefits Republicans. Higher turnout tends to help Democrats because Democratic constituents are less likely to vote. When they do turn out, they can swing an election. Barack Obama would not be president if black people and young people hadn't turned out in 2008.

The ignorant, pernicious ideas that voting is insignificant and that all politicians are the same only succeed in entrenching the status quo. Rich, straight white guys like Brand have some nerve telling people to not vote.

Yep. I sure when Brand said that, Charles Koch was like "thumbs up, dude!".

His whole point is nonsensical. "We need to be more proactive, and it starts by not voting!"

Okay, Russell, put the pipe down...

    Stop voting?

Does Mr. Brand understand how representative democracy works?

Not voting just means that the people you hate the most get elected. People in their 20's are the worst voters, but they are often the ones most complaining about the gov't. Want post secondary to be cheaper? Want better minimum wage laws? Vote and write to your elected representative about what you want from your government.

Because there is nothing gets the job done better than sitting on your ass and telling mildly amusing jokes.

If this asshole ever showed up at a protest- or god forbid put his money where his mouth is and led one- I might not think he's a gigantic asshole.

Your move, Brand, you pretentious, good-for-nothing, medium-talent foreskin.

He's right about the voting thing though. I mean, how well did that work for us with Obama? Bush was spying on us all and violated the constitution! This guy says that's bad and he won't do it! Let's vote for him!

...oh. He kept doing it anyways. And in fact, expanded it. And he's now defending it. I'm sure glad I voted for all that Change...

What a fucking moron. It's taken Russell all this time, and he's only just now reached the South-Park-shit-taco-douche-sandwich level of political comprehension? "Duuuuhr, both sides are the same, just don't vote, that will solve the problem!"

Awesome. And here we have an example of exactly why nothing will ever change.

That's too bad, I really like some of his comedy.

I know a lot of fairly stupid people who are taking his words very much to heart. I have taken some pains to point out that being part of a reasonably affluent middle class family, we might not end up on the side of the barricades they're expecting to were a popular revolution to actually occur in the UK.

For that matter, nor would millionaire Hollywood star Russell Brand...

Klassy with a K, Russell Brand. Because what we really need is more metaphors related to the humiliation and degradation of a woman by men.

Ehhh, no I disagree with the assertion of misogyny. Bukakke can be with only men, too. Even if it is 'degrading,' some people enjoy that :P

Yeah, yeah, I know some people enjoy that. It's not like I don't get his point or anything, it's just kind of trashy.

Wherever a politician casts doubt on the legitimacy of a parliament because it no longer represents the Voice of the People, we can smell Ur-Fascism.

It would be so weird if Russell Brand morphed into a legitimate 21st Century Che Guevara and the CIA had to assassinate him.

You are really buying into the whole "lip service over effort" thing aren't you?

Don't we remember when celebrities en masse wanted to get involved in the political process and ended up doing the same kind of armchair political discussion you expect out of freshman poly sci majors?

I was only just getting used to the mainstreaming of "moneyshot." I don't think I'm ready to hear people ordering a bukakke of shots. And if I turn on CNN and am told that Congress went ass to mouth on the new appropriations bill, I may flip out.
