I work at Pizza Hut. Hand tossed is a 'style' of dough, not what actually happens to the dough. It comes frozen in a box, then it gets thawed, then we throw stuff on it and feed it to you. At no point does it get tossed. They're lying to you.

Now if we could just get Publix subs in a standalone building, all will be right in the fast food world.

You are very bad at reading maps, and words. You are lucky that I automatically ignore anything you write and need other people to bring your sick trolling to my attention, otherwise I would have fired you this morning.

Rightly or wrongly, Rhode Island is inside the Pizza Belt.

I live in Providence ... Federal Hill area, and there is actually pretty f*ing great deep dish, thin crust, and what I guess we now call hand tossed all around me.

I live in RI. I wasn't born or raised here. I have been exposed to pizza from many other places and I can confirm with the utmost authority that the pizza in RI is garbage. Anyone who says that there is "good pizza" in RI really needs to be sat down for a true pizza tasting. Dough, tomato sauce, a stringy mozzarella ball and some desiccated crepe paper basil does not a pizza make. Sit down RI. Your pizza sucks.

we find this whole "hand-tossed" business to be a bit French/ Communist/ Gay.

Well, it gives me the impression that Pizza Hut is somehow producing pizzas by masturbation.

I work at a Pizza Hut part time. Don't be mislead. The dough has been coming in frozen for almost ten years now, and this "new" hand tossed dough is no different. It arrives frozen, and then it is thawed and stretched to fit the pan. Nobody actually "tosses" the dough at all, you just leave it on the pan and stretch it to reach the edges.

All of Pizza Hut's dough is frozen. None of it is made in the store. Even when they claimed that they had "bakery style" pan dough. Nope, just frozen.

To be clear, the dough arrives at the store as a frozen disk, and then as it thaws it increases in size. It is then stretched to the edges of a pan, sauced, cheesed, topped, and put into the oven. All of the dough is "touched" by human hands, but the key word in all of Pizza Hut's dough types is the word "style". It isn't hand tossed dough, it is hand tossed "style" dough.

Hmm... Maybe it differs by store. Ours mixes the thin and pan dough in-store. Only the hand-tossed comes frozen.

Sounds like marketing bullshit. They had a "hand tossed" pizza in the 80s. It was the similar to their pan pizza lines, but the dough was softer so the morning prep staff would mix the dough, flatten it and toss it in the air a couple times before placing it on the pan for proofing. Preparation after that was essentially the same. The only way you can make a truly hand tossed pizza on demand is by using thin crust dough. Pizza Hut offers this but their dough isn't elastic enough to spin. Instead of spinning it in the air, it's run through a series of rollers to make it big enough to lay on a baking sheet.

I will say this about Pizza Hut: I worked there and would happily eat there if I lived in a pizza desert like Rhode Island. I live in Chicago. A plethora of pizza options await you here.
