I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW, I COULD DIE!!!!

This is the best. A nice person, a male person, who is not old, did a nice thing, for an animal much maligned due to stinkiness.

    Skinks are wonderful .

Skunks usually display by stomping their hind feet before they spray, so he was probably safe all along..to display they have to know which end is up and the location of the threat, but most people would not have done this.

I am saving stories like this to read over and over and over when I am discouraged by the state of humanity. Every seven minutes.

I've heard of people removing their scent glands and keeping them as pets. Apparently they are cat-like in behavior.

      Yay for good samaritans!!

Cats actually bully and kill skunks. There's really no comparison. Skunks are nice. Cats are... cats.

Most people also don't realize skunks spray as a final defensive measure - it's a last resort because it actually takes quite a while to re-generate their skunk-juice.

Phones are designed to take video vertically, so what you are really complaining about is:

      1. The black borders on the side of the screen.

      2. The fact that YouTube and other web players do not format to take #1 into account.

      3. Your personal inability to deal with new media formats and media players' inability to correctly display new media formats; see #1 and #2.

      Skunked?

Not disagreeing, but in my neck of the woods "skunk" weed is usually seedy, stem-filled and dry.

It's great that he did this, but what a clusterfucking way to go about it. Just walk up and pull the fucking cup off its head. It can't see you. City folk.

Hey, I know, seems obvs to those of us who deal w/ skunks in the countryside, but give the guy some credit.

To the uninitiated—it is the tail of the skunk ya gotsa worry about. ;)

Still, kudos for a good deed. A weird good deed.

I know! What was doing with that blanket for the first 5 minutes? Just setting it next to the skunk over and over again, FOR WHAT PURPOSE?!

Good job! I always appreciate people who take the time to rescue animals from the road. My dad used to ride his bike to work every day and used to regularly rescue sad little red eared turtles from from certain doom on the road. I try to follow his example.

You ride a bike to work? I should since I only live 2 minutes away by car, but it seems pretty dangerous.

Anyway, good on you and your dad...poor little turtles think their shell will protect them from a 3000 lb car

I do. Not every day, because I live in Louisiana and it rains all the time, but I live a 10ish minute drive from work. I won't lie. It can get a little scary, especially when I go through some of the high-traffic, less bike friendly areas. People are assholes to bikers. I bike mostly through residential neighborhoods, though, and only cross one four lane on the way so its not too bad. My boyfriend has an even worse ride to school through downtown and I've been trying to convince him to just drive because of the way I see people act on my residential route.

More than possible stink attack, I'm not sure I would have done anything for fear of rabies - is that a reasonable or unreasonable worry with any wild animal I encounter?

As long as you wear gloves and try not to bite, there is very little chance of giving animals your rabies.

A whole skunk family got run over in front of our house. One of the babies survived with a crushed pelvis. I put it in the casement window, and fed it raw eggs. At first it would try and rear its ruined hindquarters to threaten me but eventually it calmed down, healed up somehow, and went out to do its skunky business.
