I would lose faith in the system entirely if those presenting me with my programming were taking grass while doing so.

The linked article says it's not possible to get high from exhaled air, because your body removes the psychoactive substances before you exhale, but while pot is burning, it is continuously giving off smoke too. So if you were in a room with 100 people lit up, most of the smoke would be the exhaled smoke, but a large quantity would also be directly from the pot, so I would think it would be possible to get a contact high in the right situation.

A small room with a hundred pot smokers? I'd be less concerned about contact high than I would be about possible contact sex.

I have to say I'm not too enthralled about the reporting on legalization, mainly the insistence on referring to it as "pot" every time it's spoken of. And maybe I'm overthinking, but I think using the "pot" pseudonym just continues to demonize it. Am I wrong for thinking this? Does anyone else notice or care?

Sure, "pot" is like the word booze, but Marijuana is just a bit to formal don't you think? Weed is definitely a derogatory term and speaks to the quality of it too, usually low quality, that's like hooch i guess. I think the best term for it is Cannabis. That way it encompasses the things like edibles, concentrates, and flowers.

I had no idea "pot" is considered derogatory. This is interesting. I thought "weed" would be more derogatory. "Marijuana" I agree sounds too uptight. There's "cannabis" but when that is used isn't it usually referring to medical use? What does one call it these days?

This is getting so ridiculous. Mommy and Daddy Discover Mary Juana. "Oh look, Anderson, this is what the stoners call a SA TEE VAH...." And Cooper has to sit there all stern and giving lectures. And telling us we've dramatically changed our attitudes since 1974. Seriously? We have? Huh.

Does all this strike everyone else as just a tad disingenuous? It's 2014, c'mon. Even if you don't exactly understand anything about marijuana, surely you have looked it up on Wikipedia by now.

Isn't the most likely explanation for a contact high that the person experiencing it associates the feelings of highness with the smell?

In other words, 1) Smell weed, 2) Remember or imagine what it feels like to be stoned, 3) Feel and act a bit stoned.

    Synesthesia, people.

Not everyone who has experienced a contact high knows what the feelings of highness are, so that explanation doesn't really work. I've never deliberately been high in my life, but every time I smell pot around me, I get a headache and feel weird. I think it's safe to assume these things are related to one another.

The smell of smoke may account for the headache, but as for the 'weirdness,' I still wonder about the social aspect. You may never have been purposefully stoned, but it's safe to assume you've seen people who are. With something as nebulous and difficult to define as perception, it still seems reasonable to think the symptoms may be psychosomatic.

See, CNN reporters are getting high these days. I think it's about time those pansies over at Vice step their game up and start taking that homemade smack they report on, lest they lose their cred.

As a marijuana expert myself, I have done extensive research, and there's no way someone can get a contact high from exhaled air. Once your body has metabolized the THC, it's gone from the exhaled air. I don't think she smoked, though.

Technically a contact high is a psychological phenomenon from being around drunk / stoned / balls-tripping people, as opposed to any kind of second hand effects. That said I still think hot boxing a party van would have some effect.

I am also a marijuana expert (seriously, I have 3 letters after my title and everything) and I can tell you 3 things:

      1. You are correct. A person cannot get a contact high from exhaled air. Said person(s) CAN get a contact high from exhaling cannabis smoke (semantics are important).

      2. It is wrong to say that a person can metabolize all of the psychoactives in a single lungful of cannabis smoke (because most of the time, they cannot). Controlled for a single serving hit in a lab, sure. Now show me the same thing only swap out that controlled lab hit for a cotton swab sized dab of shatter and tell me what you find (hint: not all "servings" of cannabis are the same).

      3. I do not believe she smoked either.

She's totally an amateur. The giggles give it away.
In her defence maybe they gave her something edible and she didn't realize she was in a marijuana dispensery where edible things contain pot.

She easily could have confused the edibles with the all-you-can-eat munchies provided by the tour. She also seems like the kind of girl that acts super drunk and wild when unknowingly given near beer at a party.
