      But the people are correct in showing their contempt for lawmakers that are not doing their duty by them. For them to belittle this, even by using the most outrageous ones for humor, is wrong, I think.

        But they are doing their jobs. The majority of them get to represent people who will never vote them out of office because districts are drawn on ideological lines, and the US in particular has a consumer mentality towards government and expects representatives to act according to their whims. With the combination of those two things, what do you think is going to happen?

        They deserve the mail they get. They should accept this instead of trying to make a joke about it at the public's expense.

        Is it funny that people are writing this to them? Yes.

        Is this part of the job they signed up for as lawmakers and should respect instead of seeing themselves as put upon unfairly like an actor or other celeb? Yes.

        Jesus Christ, yes. I used to work for the president of a well-known university. The shit we would get faxed to us from the criminally insane was constant. It was great getting simultaneously accused of being anti-Israel AND anti-Palestine.
