In all fairness, even though its not PC, maybe they have literally no black people in town so adding other stuff to make it some more PC (weight, height, etc.) just takes away from the fact that if you see the one black guy in town call them.

I know this isn't the case but WHAT IF.

I grew up in Alaska and there was 2 black families in town, that's it. Maybe its like that there?

My whole family is from Morgantown. There are black people that live/work there. So that's not it.

Also to be fair, they did say man and not person, which I think is a valid way to narrow it down. Unless of course there is absolutely no women in that town and then it really means nothing.

What was the suspicious activity? Being black?

Dear males: stop doing so while black. Thank you, the management.

If a citizen desires to be black, he or she must be registered with the proper authorities as per their state and county bylaws. Please use your blackness responsibly.

I'm not certain if I trust the Monongaloids in the Sheriff's department to handle this one.

In all honesty, the joke's out of my own comfort zone. But it's so hard to pass up such a spectacular chance for word play.

Last week, there was a home invasion in which two women were raped near my neighborhood. The newspaper's description was "three males: one taller, two shorter." Yeah, thanks, I'll be on the lookout.

Oh no. I think I know him. What do I do???

Edit: to say I'm joking just in case the PD doesn't have a sense of humor...which I have to assume is the case.

He's on the run! I just saw him up in Michigan. He may have an accomplice.

I just saw him walk by my house!

I'm just going to shoot first and let the cops sort it out. Can never be too safe.

To be fair, a Black Man choosing to live in West Virginia is inherently suspicious.

Exactly. And WV is a very white state, so it's not so crazy to post this.

J-School was quite a few years ago, but I seem to recall that even in the unenlightened 1990s we had a style rule about this sort of thing.

As I recall, you needed to have some number of other identifiers (three? four?) in order to identify the race of a criminal suspect. Otherwise it was useless, prejudicial information.

Thatz Not OK: Suspect is a black man

Thatz OK: Suspect is an African American male, between 6'2 and 6'4, with a scar on his left cheek and one leg visibly shorter than the other.

Of course, only people who hate money go to J-school anymore, so maybe this isn't getting taught.

Also not OK: A suspect is a specific person the police have identified as being involved in a crime, i.e., they know his/her name. The cops regularly get it wrong, but they don't have to follow AP guidelines. Apparently neither do the headline writers at this newspaper. /copyeditor-grammar nazi

What if you have a really, really small number of a given ethnicity? What if there are 1000 Koreans in a town of 100,000 white people? That narrows it down.
