Wouldn't your family be freaked if you were missing for over 24 hours ? Especially in super freezing weather?

I'm glad the kid is ok, but why did god choose to intervene here but allow the rest of the homeless to rot out on the street? It's either all god's doing, or none of it is. You can't pick and choose the good parts.

I am ok with you saying "mysterious ways" and all, but for every miracle cancer recovery, god kills thousands. As long as you're ok with that, so am I.

It's not the divinity, but mankind itself through its generalized irreligion and unbelief.

Yeah maybe he left because his parents are religious nuts and their mental illness transferred to him...

"..this is by far the greatest example of God's love and divine intervention I have ever experienced"

Translation: 'God likes us more than you other people whose kids are missing!'

I know her reaction is more kneejerk than thoughtful but it's like the message here is: 'If you were a good Christian like me, God would show you where your child is in a way that can publicize your good faith.'

Look, I'm glad this young man is going to get the help he needs (hopefully). But I'm assuming there's some mental health issues here - and this really should be an example of how easy it is for functioning-but-mentally-ill people to 'disappear' into the dangers of homelessness. But I worry it'll just peter out as an example of 'God's Love'.

When I read it, I imagined a mom, maybe who didn't even believe in god, who was so worried-terrified these days, she's been making deals and praying super hard that if "you're out there, for realz, please make sure my son is alive" and it happens ! and she's like "holy shit, ok, Thanks God."

I know this is Gawker and anytime there is any sort of statement where someone says , "Thank God" or "God Bless" it MUST be pointed out, but if she wants to thank God then just let her thank God. That wasn't her "message". The woman was asked to give a statement and said it. Just because someone thanks God after something good happens doesn't necessarily mean that they think they are any better than anyone else. If my kid went missing and was found a few days later I'd probably let out a "Thank GOD!" and I wouldn't be snickering in a corner somewhere thinking I'm so much better than anyone else.

It's supposed to get really cold tonight, and I'm glad this is one person out of the cold. But there are so many out there. And animals. Plants. Stuff will be suffering tonight and it makes me sad. But maybe less than I fear because life will find a way. Everybody stay warm.

either he had one hell of a breakdown, or his parents are insufferable. or the world is not black and white and there's a lot more to this than what is suggested by my musings. but we all know the world is in 32-bit technicolor so, it's one of my musings.

    also, I'm really sad today....

I'm confused. Greece is a town in Rochester, NY? Is it a suburb?

Grew up on the west side of Rochester near Greece and now my parents live in Greece itself. Greece is technically a suburb, designated as a town, but it's really big and the size of a relatively small city. Population about 50,000 in Greece alone and it's big enough for 4 high schools and generally has like everything that people who live in the other suburbs of western Rochester would need. Like if you needed to go to Walmart or Target or the mall or a chain restaurant and lived on the west side of Rochester, that's where you'd go. Also North Greece borders Lake Ontario so the beach area up there is popular.

He's also an adult though. It makes me wonder and want to speculate on why he went "missing" in the first place: mental health? family?

Early 20s fits in the general discovery timeline for mental illness in males.

A couple years ago, I did an interview with a homeless guy: http://www.newsreview.com/reno/home-on-t…. His family happened across it, and they contacted me in November. We went looking for him, and, long story short, he spoke to his family for the first time in 56 years. http://www.newsreview.com/reno/down-to-t…. Crazy, right?
