Sasha and Malia, I love you girls but you don't even know what an embarrassing dad is! Your dad asks your friends about their homework? My dad made any boy that came over listen to him play the accordion before they could watch a movie in the basement with me, and my dad got REALLY into playing the accordion.

My dad was known to greet boys at the door, shirtless and carrying a menacing tool, like a hatchet.

I can totally see President Obama being that embarrassing eager Dad, but they will love that about him as they get older. Michelle Obama I imagine being one of those Mom's that everyone goes to when shit hits the fan. "Ms. O, can I talk to you? One of our friends is sleeping with a 20 year old, we're worried for her because she is drinking with him too! We don't know what to do?" Did any of you have a Mom around like that? I remember two Mom's like that in our little clan. Ms. Larsen and Ms. Olson both gentle/caring and totally bulldogish when they needed to be.

My mom ended up being that mom for my friends...I would get a little envious though, because I was always way too scared to tell her any of my secrets when I growing up! I remember one of my friends telling my mom when she had her first kiss (we were around 15, late bloomers), and I was like, wait...WHAT? Is that how this works?! Girl, you're crazy.

But...they weren't the ones with as much dignity to lose if my mother accidentally gabbed to my aunts/siblings/neighbors about stuff that she seemingly forgot that I told her in confidence, and misremembering details at that. Damn you, mom!

Yeah, my mom was the "cool mom", according to all my friends. And there I was wishing I could have a mom like Mrs. Keller, who cared enough to set limits.

I feel more sorry for the Secret Service guys. Two teenage girls. Who probably talk to their friends like all teenage girls. And they have to Stand. There. And hear ALL OF IT.
