    Serious question: I've always heard the term 'American Sign Language" used. The fact that "American" is tacked on makes me believe that other countries/languages have their own sign language. Since this guy is clearly not American and I assume Kimmel's interpreter is, how do we know that the translation is even valid?

      I was wondering the same thing, since countries usually do have their own versions of sign language and South Africa has its own version. I'm guessing the Jimmy Kimmel guy is just doing a form of sign language soramimi of what the South African guy is signing and its not meant to be taken seriously.

    My grandma used to teach deaf children and even someone who doesn't know much about signing can see this is bullshit. Like Kimmel said, he repeats the same gestures over and over again so unless the person speaking has a real bad stutter, it's just nonsense.

      I took ASL in college as my foreign language, just because it seemed really interesting. I don't remember a lot of it, but one crucial thing (in ALL sign languages) is facial expression; you have to use very pronounced, almost dramatic, facial expressions along with the signs. This guy looks like he is directing traffic or something, with little to no facial expression at all. Total crap.
