My first ever real job was at Contempo, which had been recently purchased by Wet Seal. The first thing they did was get rid of the gang dressing rooms, which was nice, but this was back in the 90's, and every week, I would fill out the same damn merchandise report saying "many customers are coming in and asking for larger sizes." So I mean, it's nice that they are carrying that stuff now, but it took them decades to get there.

A big room with mirrors around the perimeter, but no individual doors/stalls. It's to keep people from shoplifting.

Wet Seal would probably make more money if their clothes were actually cute. They don't even have to be high quality, but the stuff there is UGLY. I went there to find some basic leggings and my eyes were assaulted. It's a grungier but tackier version of Forever 21.

If Ke$ha were a snake, Wet Seal would be where she sheds her skin.

I used to work for a company owned by Wet Seal and let me say, I have never in my life seen cheaper clothing so highly priced. It was all garbage, everything was dirty, and they couldn't run the store to save their lives. Turn over was high even for retail. They also didn't allow full time employees because they didn't want to offer any benefits. I'll never have a good opinion of Wet Seal.

I checked one out recently at a local mall thinking, "hey, this is a blast from the past, what does this place look like now?" It was crappy. And dimly lit. Not in an artistic, theme-y way, but in a "too cheap to replace the lights" sort of way.

In high school, I stupidly bought a piece of shit shirt from Wet Seal for $40 (all the money saved from an allowance), cause I thought I was "cool" and was trying to impress someone.

There was no Forever 21 back then, but damn me for not going to TJ Maxx or equivalent!

They have perfect sizing for us size 0 types, but the quality of the clothing is so poor that it will melt if you pour a cup of water on it. I started to graduate to better constructed brands a few years ago, despite loving their price point.

I worked for Wet Seal over one desperate summer. It was unbearable. I have to admit I scavenged some cute clothes and accessories, but was borderline suicidal in the process. Most of my specific memories are repressed, but I still have flashbacks that cause me to start spontaneously folding low quality denim when I hear Lil Mama or Avril Lavigne songs. Thankfully, that hasn't happened in quite some time.

Speaking of Wet Seal, does anyone remember Gadzooks? Gadzooks was awesome. Wet Seal wasn't a big deal for us.

YES. In our mall, they were across from each other. I mean...where can I buy a pair of flood JNCOs?

So I remember Wet Seal as Contempo Casuals, and the "it" item of 7th grade was to have their skin-tight v-neck shirts. I bought one in blue and loved it, but my mom thought it was way too tight and forbid me to wear it to school. And thus began the middle school years of constant arguments over what to wear. RIP Contempo Casuals.

I'm an old woman, evidently. I never heard of Wet Seal until about a year or so ago, and then it was on this site that I heard of it. How long has this company been around? Do they have storefronts or are they just internet-only?

I'd never heard of it until I was almost out of high school. I lived in a rural area, and the closest mall was big, but all of the stores were the "mall standards" - Hallmark, American Eagle, Bath and Body Works, Sam Goody, Claire's, etc. We didn't get anything like Wet Seal or Hot Topic until years after they became a thing, and I think Wet Seal went out not long after that. I was a size 7 or 9 and the few times I ever went in I couldn't find anything that would fit me.
