I may have missed it, but is there a link to blame Obama and/or call this "another White house scandal" yet?

I image searched for "hand rubbing gif" and picked one at random. Is that image a known anti-Semitic image? Honestly, I had no idea.

What the hell? That's kind of a fucked up ad right there. What country are you in? Despite the fact that I've not seen anything this overt in its depiction of schizophrenic symptoms, the call to action's wording also gave me pause: "Turn FIRST to Seroquel." Something tells me this isn't a US ad because regulations probably don't allow a pharma ad to say that without some note about "talk to your doctor." (Compliance has got to be a real bitch when writing copy for pharma.)

Just a guess from the copy, I think it was from a medical journal or other publication geared towards mental health professionals. The "When they turn to you, turn first to Seroquel," along with the phrasing of the lede, sounds like a statement to doctors that they should consider it as their first pharmaceutical treatment.

I see a lot of people are saying that he's probably making this up as an excuse, but do people really think someone would lie about having a very stigmatized, serious mental illness to cover something up like this? Especially when his full name, profession, and other very identifying information is known. There are some physical illnesses that can cause erratic, bizarre behavior that he could have thrown out instead. Diabetic shock immediately comes to mind.

Even a bullshitter would know that labeling yourself a schizophrenic is a terrible long-term plan, even if it helps you in the moment. Our society treats anybody with a mental illness terribly, but schizophrenics are especially maligned.

Does this guy, who stood up there and pretended to do sign language next to every significant world leader while either a) being incompetent or b) having some sort of serious health issue, seem like the sort of person who has good long-term planning skills in the heat of the moment?

Later that evening Jantjie spoke to another reporter stating, "I am such a poor bullshitter I continue to fabricate the most ridiculous stories because I'm completely unaware that no one believes a word I say. The benevolent sun smiles down on me."

I've worked in the mental health field for 10 years though I am not a doctor and the only thing that makes me question the veracity of his statement is how open he is about discussing his symptoms.

In my experience, they tend to be very guarded about the specifics of auditory and visual hallucinations. I had a client tell me there was a man standing in the garden, which genuinely alarmed me until I realized she was just seeing things, but was unwilling to describe said man or speak any further about him.

It's very odd to me that he would speak so openly about what he was seeing, and even odder that he would acknowledge they were not in fact real, which is an even rarer occurrence from what I'm used to.

That's a giant fuck up on the part of the Secret Service. Saying it's the responsibility of the host committee does nothing to abrogate the Secret Service's burden to protect the President. It would be very easy to exploit lesser security to place someone that close to the President. What a nightmare.

The Secret Service already did their job, by making sure the guy wasn't armed, and by being about 3 steps away from the President at all times.

How much damage do you honestly think that little guy could do to the President with his bare hands in the 1.5 seconds it would take the Secret Service to reach them? (And that's being generous and assuming a sniper wasn't already on him.)

I don't know how much damage he could have done. I just know that normally a violent schizophrenic would not be allowed within arm's reach of the President. It is particularly disturbing that the company that he was hired through cannot be found anymore. I will fully admit my opinion on this is just my opinion - I have no particular insight into Secret Service protocol or procedure. If it's this slapdash, though, it's concerning.
