I haven't yet played Perfect Stride, the trippy new skateboarding game from LA based indie studio Arcane Kids, because it's not out yet. But if their past work with weird web games like Busby Visits the James Turrell Retrospective and Room of 1,000 Snakes are anything to go by, it should great. I also love Tom Bissell's book Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter, a highbrow, beautifully written compilation of essays, criticisms and memoir that will make you feel slightly less guilty about all the hours wasted goofing off in front of a screen.

Ah, Poor Mr. Chen. You didn't follow the instructions.

For your punishment everything you write will now be from "The Gray Zone". Yes, and forever: you are now "pending." Supercilious though it may appear, there is a point. Elusive. One may only hint at the shadow of its former shape. A hierarchy snark. A slathering of smarm. A frightful turd, the Elba of journalism, the oubliette of Kinja. "Nothing to look backward to with pride, nothing to look forward to with hope." (Frost)

When I figure it out I'll explain. I haven't figured it out. /Z

    PS Vita, $180-$200

Your gamer friend is holding out on buying this for perfectly good reasons, namely that there aren't any must-have exclusives and the proprietary memory cards are outlandishly priced. But they're also ruining their life by not having Persona 4 Golden available whilst on the shitter. Buy it for them.

    Sweet $180 bundle.

    Wii U - $399 (depending on bundle)

The Wii U is the perfect gift to release the fanboy allegiance pent up inside the Kotaku reader. Love Nintendo? "Great! I already have the Wii U, but another purchase will help their dismal sales!" Hate Nintendo? "Bro, 1080p, 60fps, graphics, graphics, third party titles...I'll just return it."

      Minecraft Wall Torch, $27.95

My nephew will not shut up about Minecraft so I wasn't surprised when most of his Wish List my sister forwarded was Minecraft-centric. That being said, I think this wall torch has such a distinctive look (love how the "light" end of the torch looks pixelated) I can imagine how excited I would be to receive it as a gift... if I gave a rat's ass about Minecraft. (Amazon link may or may not work)

Fleshlight - prices as low as $49.95 (plus holiday deals with savings up to 33%)

This is the best implement for self-gratification ever to exist in human history. If they will dive into fantasy on a console, they can also plunge into fantasy with the fleshlight which also simulates the vaginas, buttholes, and mouths of popular adult actresses.

Purchases can be made at www.fleshlight.com or any online retailer such as Amazon.

        Steam Gift Card

Buying straight up games for the PC gamer in your life can be tricky, as it's sometimes tough to know exactly what they like, if their system can run it, and from where to buy the game. A Steam gift card is versatile enough to let them get what they love, but also specific enough that they think, "Hey, this is great! I'll use this for that FPS/RPG/Indie/RTS/Sports title that I've had my eye on!"

Also, with the Steam Winter Sale approaching, they'll most likely be buying games at ridiculously low prices, stretching your gift even further!

You can pick them up at Best Buy, Gamestop, Target, Wal-Mart, and a few other big box retailers. Mom, are you paying attention?

        RWBY, $9.99/$11.99 (DVD/BluRay)

An anime series by the same team that brought you Red vs. Blue for so many years. It's a throwback to classic anime with many of the tropes that fans of the genre love. The way it's set up it seems as if the staff had created a show to base a video game off of so there is a lot of cross-pollination for any frequent Kotaku visitor.
