Don't get too high and mighty. Black Friday is now "celebrated" in Canada too.

Nothing says pre-Christmas WalMart shopping like being handcuffed on top of the flatscreen television that you were fighting over.

I hope they make that person buy the flatscreen and I hope it is broken.

I had turkey, gravy, an liquor. No way in hell was I leaving the recliner, much less the house. There would have had to have been afire or somebody buying me a new TV. And even then I'd stay in the car.

I think we need to stop reporting on and sensationalizing the violence. That's asking a lot, I know. I woke up kind of excited to hear what happened out there in Black friday land, and I'm ashamed at that. I'm worried it's going to get worse every year, people looking forward to it like gladiator matches. It's just a sick circus.

That's exactly what it is, a replacement for the gladiator matches. State run fights between criminals for their freedom? How cruel. Shooting each other on Turkey Day for little Timmy's new tablet? That's cool, Yay Capitalism.

I hear that others cruise the parking lots and steal the big screen tv's from people trying to carry them out. It's like a wildlife video; you got your predators, your prey, your hyenas and your vultures. A complete ecological circle.

Good analogy but despite our monumental hubris, man has never not been a part of the ecological circle, regardless of the amount of Bibles we thump or theories we develop.

I went for an 8:00 sale item at Walmart last night and my experience was a complete 180 from these. I saw the phone I was planning to get was $29 instead of the regular $99 so I decided to brave it for just that one item.

I found a parking spot right near the front as someone was leaving from the 6:00 sale. I walked in at about 7:00, checked the map, found a lady with a vest, she gave me a wrist band and told me to line up around the shoes.

I stood in line for the next hour chatting with my new best friends in line. I heard about some kid that was too close to the games and where was his parents. I watched their family members bring stuff to their carts that they found around the store.

There was a slight hiccup close to 8 when a Walmart employee said the people who were in line with us to get tablets were in the wrong line, even though the vest lady told them it was the same line.

8:00 the line started moving. We snaked around the rows of shoes and I got there to the photo desk. I showed the clerk my wrist band, he cut it off. He asked if I wanted a case or a time card with it, I said no. I paid at the register right next to the clerk, though I didn't have to, but hey, no line. I took my bag and receipt, had the receipt checked at the front of the store and then got in my car.

No way in hell I would come back for the pallet sales or store openings. In the end, I got a phone I was going to buy anyway for $70 dollars less just for standing in an orderly line for an hour.

        Good no ya.

I don't leave until noon on Black Friday, so my experiences resemble yours more than the Lord of The Flies auditions everyone else is taking about. Hell, the only real Black Friday memory I have is when I went to a Target that look abandon on Black Friday night.

So much could be said about the use of the word "safer" applied to the sale of consumer products at Walmart. "Safer" for employees who cannot even pay basic necessities with their salaries? "Safer" for the workers in third world countries who manufacture most of the stuff? "Safer" for the environment depleted to create most of this quasi disposable stuff?

Nah, "safer" for the Walton's bank account is probably the most accurate.

From the videos and the guy's comments it seems clear that the staff was trained to be on the lookout for cameras to minimize this kind of coverage. Depressing.
