Love that America handles racism the same way my sleazbag coke friends handle STDs: so long as we just avoid the topic and act like everything's okay those bumps on our dick will just disappear on their own.

FYI, people in America are MUCH MUCH MUCH more open to talking about racism than the vast majority of Europe, where it's just as big of a problem (just in other ways).

I love it when white men tell people that there's no racism anymore. Wow! Thanks for letting me know!

As a Non White Person(TM), I am happy someone finally came in and Whitesplained all of this to me. Now I feel safe hanging around people who wear shirts with slogans like "Don't Apologize to be White!". They keep having these delicious BBQs in the woods nearby where they raise their fists a lot. I can't wait to go say hi and make friends!!!

I am so sick of this whole, "I swear I'm not racist, let me say racist shit now," thing. My (uber-conservative, white) grandparents were visiting a few weeks ago and started making all these awful comments about Detroit and the public schools there (fair criticism to a degree but good lord were their comments full of Fox talking points/dog whistles.) I casually inferred that what they were saying was some pretty racist rhetoric and they fucking lost it. "I'm not racist because I said so," was the extent of their rebuttal. Last week I get a letter (a handwritten letter!) from my grandmother saying she can't believe her granddaughter called her a racist and "I AM NOT A RACIST, but you just don't understand how Detroit has totally gone down the tubes in the past 50 years and she just can't understand whyyyy." Anyway, I am in the process of figuring out how the hell to respond to that shit...

Good luck. My grandma insists she loves me (and my boyfriend), and that we're the only two gays not tracking this country (and world) straight to hell.

Because it is more often than not Tea Party types who are accused of racial hostility toward Obama, I have a parlor game I play with my white conservative friends that tells me everything I need to know about the state of race relations in America.

"If your daughter were thinking of marrying a man like Clarence Thomas or one like Chris Matthews, which would you choose?" I ask.

Hey, Mark Joseph, just wanted to let you know that the "would you let your daughter marry a black guy over a liberal" game is racist.

If my friends and I are playing "would you rather" and I choose death by fire over being burned alive I am not pro-being burned alive.

I like it. There are so many extremely acceptable variations.

Would you rather your daughter marry a Jew or a member of Al Qaida?

How about a lesbian who looks like a very handsome man, or a man who looks like an extremely beautiful woman, causing you to have many confusion boners?

Would you rather your daughter marry Obamacare or the national debt?

Sarah Palin's moose knuckle or Jon Hamm's prodigious cock outline?

"He is also a close personal friend of Creed's Scott Stapp" is one of the most chilling sentences I've ever read.

When will everyone understand that YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE BLACK UNTIL YOU ARE BLACK WHICH YOU DON'T HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER.

You can be another race and sympathise, but you will never know. NEVER KNOW. Just stooooooop

A Christian white man being clueless about racism and the existence of God is the least surprising thing in the world. But people like him need to learn that racism hasn't gone away just because it's a little easier for black people to become successful now than it was for blacks in the past.

I would hate to ask him his opinions on the killing of Trayvon Martin but I have a feeling he A) doesn't know anything about it or B) thinks Zimmerman was justified in killing him because black teenager.

You should probably read the actual USA today article before commanding such high dudgeon. Gawker's just being mendacious as usual and deliberately fomenting shitstorms.

I did and my comment still stands. He thinks that racism is not that bad anymore because Oprah and Barack Obama have reached a level of success that no one would've expected from African Americans many years ago. Hell, some people still believe that.

How is it Gawker's fault that this man wrote this delusional article and people are responding to it?
