Raise it in a Christian Baptist home so it becomes so fucked in the head that it grows up and tries to marry Charles Manson?

Real pussy. A little something to smoke. A good electric guitar. A good place to fart and shit.

I've never heard the American Dream distilled so effortlessly.

Nothing at all, though, about wanting a full set of teeth or sanity. You'd think they'd be on the list somewhere.

Well he has better access to health care than many Americans and more protection of his civil liberties than the average black man in the free world, so probably not.

I tell you what; I worked in correction's medical units and unless you are "lucky" enough to have a really cool disease like HIV/AIDS in the mid to late 90's when clinical trials were being done with antiretroviral drug therapy and it's decided that your worthless body would make a great science experiment (which just happened to work out well...that time),I'll take my chances in the free-world with some Super Glue, some Naprosyn and a clean towel for my medical issues.

I know a jillion people may take great offense at this, but guys like Manson are a dime a dozen in maximum security prisons.

He shot to the top of everyone's fears because the young, rich, beautiful, pregnant and famous were the victims of him and his minions when they were always under an assumed umbrella of some divine protection. Also, see drug culture hysteria.

Everyone takes great curious, almost delightful horror at his semi-poetic nature of describing the macabre, his "reality", and what happened under his watch. He really sounds no different to me than most of your run of the mill poly-diagnosed mentally ill who are imprisoned for terrible crimes.

I have seen inmates who have done far more heinous crimes, (not to negate the absolute horror that his victims felt, but that's what murderers do) but in my opinion, his "outfit" was proof the establishment wanted to demonize the whole hippie/drug culture anyway. All those trippy songs and free love just wasn't underscoring the dangers of Reefer Madness like a schizophrenic who had a foothold in the heads of a bunch of castaway/runaway kids who thought they found something profound in Manson.

The mafia and biker gangs alone can account for much more crime, and they weren't even necessarily mentally ill. Add in sexual sadists, pedophile cannibals, and a soupçon of paranoid schizophrenia, and that scares me more.

I agree, but you've forgotten the big ones, the gangs, especially those connected to the Latin American drug cartels. Even some the kids in those gangs have done a lot worse than Manson.

      Mmmmmmm. Did you say soup?

Seriously though, just read a book called 'Manson" by Jeff Guinn. Great overall picture of the society and how Charlie became the fucking lunatic he is.

      Also, love your handle!

I think he's a good example of why a life sentence can be better than the death penalty.

By serving life in prison he's become a toothless novelty. Sure, he's 'evil' but it's more of a pathetic and laughable evil - not scary and ominous evil. If he'd been put to death long ago he'd be only known as an almost super-natural monster with a single heavy legacy. That's been taken away from him by keeping him alive.

Think of the people who're partly motivated by wanting to leave an imposing public memory. Putting them to death helps that happen. I'm betting even the most misguided 'bad' person wouldn't want Manson's current status in the public zeitgeist.

I completely disagree. I think Star is perfect evidence of why we should just put a quick and swift end to these people's lives. By keeping serial killers alive and give press, media, and hollywood access to them, we create these epic story lines that people can love or hate.

Look at Star, (clearly her parents fucked her up good or she has some mental issues) but at 19 she falls in love with a 73 year old piece of shit. Obviously she's romanticized his life and has found a way to love who this turd is. She wants to marry this jack off. And she's just an example. There are probably lot of people who look up this man. They read his writings and they wait for more. He basically gets to keep his cult from his cell. Except for the physical restrictions of his cell, he's still Charles Manson cult leader. That's fuck up.

We should have put a bullet in his head the day after his conviction, and by now, no one would even remember he existed.

Ha. You think people get forgotten about after they're dead? People who commit world famous acts of 'evil' will just fade from public memory if we kill them soon after conviction?

Yeah. That's not the case. That's never been the case.
