What does this mean? I have heard people say "lean in" like it's a phrase in reference to something, but I have no idea what to.

Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook wrote a widely popular book in America called "Lean In" which was about how we would only have more women leaders and women making more monies if women leaned into their jobs, instead of slacking off when they want to have babies. It's a bit more nuanced than that, but basically, that's what she's saying.

Duly reported. Maybe if enough people report it, Facebook will take it down. I chose "harassing someone I know." It's too bad they didn't ask for specifics.

I reported it under this option also. I was confused about what the "Let someone you trust know this bothers you" option, because that seems weird.

I saw a special on that awhile back. I think it was about bullying, as in, if you are being harassed, you should tell an actual person.

I'm going to guess that the number of women on the inappropriate material review team is fairly low.

Maybe communicating with Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures about their use of the Ghostbusters image would get some results?

Reported. That is the most disgustingly reductive list of options for "What's wrong with this page."

Ladiez and menz, I have good news for y'all: There are only six "types" of real "violence or harmful behavior":

    • Credible threat of violence
    • Self-harm
    • Suicidal content
    • Graphic violence
    • Theft or vandalism
    • Drug use

We can all go home now. Nothing to worry about except that short list, which apparently encompasses all violence, since you must pick which type in order to proceed. There is no "Other."

'Promotes rape and violence against women' should be an option.

Facebook has a long, sad history of not caring about sexual violence. Sometimes I wonder why more people aren't boycotting it, but then I remember that I'm not either, so I can't really talk. It sucks that it's so essential to so many people that we're willing to put up with bullshit like this.

        Why would facebook care?

They did nothing about a sex trafficking page until it hit the media

Facebook is a misogynistic bathtub filled with boiling shit.

Exactly, Facebook has a long history of aiding and promoting violence against women. This is sadly not unexpected.

The promotion and glorification of sexual violence against women isn't considered hate speech? And here I thought it was exactly that issue that led Catharine MacKinnon to champion hate speech legislation.

Dear Sheryl Sandberg: Privileged women trying to "lean in" to corporate culture are not the only women who matter. I don't care if you have to haul the entire "innappropriate review" team to a week-long retreat for the purpose of education which will culminate in an all-new company-wide policy for what constitutes inappropriate, you need to "lean in" and DO SOMETHING ALREADY, FFS.

I know you're a stone-cold businesswoman, so let me put this in language you can understand: It's time to deem Facebook's current inappropriate content policy bad for business. It is harming your brand. Enough already.

Clues for the Terminally Obtuse: mastectomy reconstruction pics — perfectly appropriate. Breastfeeding pics: ditto. Pages celebrating rape, rapists and domestic violence — NOT APPROPRIATE. NOT OK. If your policy deems those things appropriate, you NEED A NEW GODDAMN POLICY.
