I do too. My inclination at first was to, of course, dislike him intensely because of his earnest intensity. But then, you know, he penetrated my veneer of automatic disdain for the young and hyper and internet-famous.

I actually stumbled upon him a few years back looking for an ex who was poetic.

I just like his wanting to make people happy thing, I'm that type of person. I also do weird and unsalable art so I sorta get that part too (though his book does look kinda neat, I'm going to buy one)

I've said it before. I'll say it again.

    Not Poetry.

    Doesn't even rhyme.

Do you consider Whitman a poet?

Mae Whitman? The woman who played Ann on Arrested Development?

      She's pretty impressive, but I don't know if she's a poet necessarily.

I guess it would depend on whether her lines actually rhyme.

I have a question that hasn't been addressed:

What is this person—single-handedly, after a very brief, tentative, and thus far largely unnoticed "career"—saving the Internet from, precisely?

It's the sort of title that sites like this use to get you to click on their articles (and they don't bother providing answers).

My mind vacillates between the idea that contemplation on human interconnectedness and the nature of consciousness and life and death and all that jazz is of paramount importance, perhaps even some sort of existential key to human happiness, and the idea that it's all self-important claptrap dreamed up by the idle brains of people with too much leisure time (of which I certainly qualify, since I'm contemplating that) and that the purest, most vital thought any of us will ever really have is "what's for dinner." I do think it's one of those two things though.

I LOVE Steve Roggenbuck. He doesn't take himself too seriously but he's poignant and incredibly relevant at the same time. Glad he's getting the attention he deserves here.

I'm 58, and the 26 year-old Roggenbuck quickens my heart and makes my soul yearn for the future.

Go back far enough, and you'll find complaints about pretty much every medium in which art has been presented. Printing destroyed the artistry of handwriting. Inks destroyed the purity of oils. Recorded music destroyed the honesty of live performance. The written word destroyed the immediacy of spoken word. No matter what, if it's a change from the status quo, someone is bloviating about how terrible and empty it is, while someone else is finding a way to advance it.

his darker poetry videos are very profound. this is my favorite:

"put your dead things into me like the rain. sit dead in your little corner of my tub and push your gun in me."
