Great. Now how do I block political posts from my family?

Same way. But you'll hide them completely.

What the fuck are these things? They're infuriating. I just de-friended someone yesterday because she's been posting like 15 a day for the past week and I just couldn't anymore.

    Dumb.

This is why I love Bitstrips, it's amazing to see how people think they look. They're completely unaware, like they've never looked in a mirror before.

A few years ago there was an avatar generator thing where you could design M&M characters that looked like you. Those were far more accurate.

I loved these as soon as I saw them because:

    1. It's was immediately obvious that they'd be polarizing in a hilarious way (i.e. uptight people mad about innocuous bullshit)

    2. I was genuinely impressed by the concept; easy-to-make passable comic panels with no artistic prowess needed (seriously, it's an impressive feat as an application)

Holy shit. I didn't know these things were bitstrips. I just thought it was one terrible unhumurous friend. Thank you buzzfeed!

Is saying "I'm not on facebook because [reasons]" the new "I don't own a TV"?

Basically, yes. And if you are like my few friends who don't have Facebook, it tends to be followed up with bitching and moaning about how they are never invited to anything due to not having Facebook and never reading their texts in a timely manner.

So, I'm a pragmatic person, and feel that FB has transformed from something useful to me, to something that just takes up my time. I've noticed everything has become more about promotion than actual content. So here's some handy FB tips:

Delete all your avatar pictures; go with the default blank avatar.

Unfriend everyone you don't actually know or talk with or visit, unless there is a specific reason to keep them as a contact.

        Don't post anything yourself.

Log in less often, maybe three times a week.

The feeling of having your 'workload' of checking and participating in FB all the time cut by 4/5ths is nice.

I have done most of these (I'll occasionally post things or links to things that amused me), and you are correct; my FB usage is down to 15 minutes every other day. I have so much more time to do actual things now. It was as astonishing as it was mildly depressing.

Only one tip I would change: instead of using the default avatar image, pick an image of something that has meaning to you, and that people who really know you would know. That way, if someone you aren't (yet) friends with is searching fb for your name, and they see that image, they will know you well enough to know that's you.

Or better yet, just delete your account like I did. Saves 5/5 of your time on it.
